forgot to make a post about this
hey so remember how i decided to make a language
yeah and that comes with making a wriitng system of course
and then i was thinking about how the people who speak this language like to decorate with dangly things
and that made me think they'd probably like those bracelets you make by tying different knots together
and then i remembered quipu the ancient record keeping system of the inca
and i was like BAM second writing system
uilvin literally translates to thread word (well i say thread but it really can mean cord, rope, thread, string, or anything of that sort.) pretty on the nose but hey this was ancient times before they had paper so cut them some slack
anyway it was the "writing" system before paper became widely available. it was phonetic and had different knots for different sounds. actually when the vinavaran standardized the alphabet (well they dont call it an alphabet but whatever) they basically just made letters corresponding to the sounds indicated by the knots. if it aint broke dont fix it type shit
nowadays its still used to make symbolic jewelry (like friendship bracelets and stuff) and also for decoration and stuff like that but its more common to write stuff down on paper now that paper is accessible and writing is faster than knotting especially if youre not using magic
i need yarn but im at college and all my yarn is at home :(
