Gilbert: Hey guys!

Don: … *waves to Gilbert*

Shiny: … uh… hi, Gilbert…

Trevor: Yikes… you can feel the change in the atmosphere in here…

Thurston: Oh, well… I’m going to get something from the dining car if you two want something other than the Doctor approved foods

Trevor: Some of the soup of the day? I don’t want to cross the line too far…

Gilbert: I think I want some of your cooking, Pops…

Thurston: I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to enter the kitchen, is there something else?

Gilbert: Same as grandpa then…

Thurston: *looks at Shiny and Don* Would you two like me to get you anything from the dining car?

Shiny: No thank you, Thurston. I think mom would be very upset if we eat dining car food out of the dining car

Thurston: Understandable, so I won’t overstep

(Thurston hugs Gilbert carefully as to not aggravate his injuries’

Thurston: Alright, then I’ll be right back, fy mabi

(Thurston kisses the top of Gilbert’s head and leaves)

Gilbert: How are you guys?

Shiny: We’re doing okay, sort of… I’m sorry that you and Trevor got hurt..

Gilbert: I’m sorry too… *looks at Don* Don, I know that you’re angry at Dad and Pops, but please-

Don: Who said I was angry at them?! I’m not-

Gilbert: Don. It doesn’t take a scientist to figure out that you’re at least upset with them, but please try to understand that they needed to walk away

Don: They shouldn’t have to punish Lily for what Lorraine did!

Trevor: Woah! They’re not walking away to punish Lily! They’re walking away because they’ve had enough!

Don: …

Shiny: *gets closer to Gilbert, to show that she’s letting Trevor talk* …

Trevor: Don, look at me please.

Don: *looks at Trevor* …

Trevor: Now, I’m not going to explain on Sonny’s behalf on why he’s walking out; because I believe that he’d want to have that conversation with you directly. However, I will explain for Thurston; now you might not understand his reasoning, but that might be because you’re looking at this like a child and not a parent.

Don: I don’t understand

Trevor: Let me explain; No good parent wants to see their child hurt or suffer from someone else’s poor decisions, and when something like that does happen, a parent’s first instinct and priority is to take their child somewhere safe and protect them from further harm, even if it meant that they might need to walk away from focusing someone else’s child.

Don: They still walked out on the search! They walked out on Lily!!! *sobs* They don’t care about her!!!

Shiny: Don!

Gilbert: *stares at Don and his grandfather, unsure of what to do* …

Trevor: Don. A parent’s decision to focus on their own child instead of someone else’s during a chaotic, emotional and stressful event, even if that other child is missing, doesn’t mean they don’t care about that other child

Don: But I- I still trusted them! Both of them!!

Trevor: Don… I know that despite my explanation; you’re still mad at them, and you’re allowed to feel that way. But it’s also unrealistic and unreasonable to expect them to prioritize looking for Lily when their own child needs them right now.

Don: *looks away, clearly still upset* …

Trevor: Take some time to think on it some more, and maybe it’ll be a little easier to understand.

Don: I’ll be fine... *leaves, almost slamming the door* …

Gilbert: I don’t think he really understood what you said

Trevor: If he’s as upset as Larry believed he was when your parents decided to walk out, then it’ll take a good while to set in. Just give him a little space

Shiny: It’s not fair for Don to still be mad at them after you explained why they had to walk away!

Trevor: It’s not fair to expect Don to drop that anger the second the explanation was given either. He needs time to process and accept this explanation. Believe it or not, he’s still allowed to be upset about it

Shiny: Oh, I… I think I understand a little better

Gilbert: I’m sorry… this wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t get hurt…

Trevor: Don’t take the blame for something that was out of your control. If anyone is to blame for this, this is on Lorraine for pushing us to go through with her plan, and myself for caving…

Gilbert: Oh… okay…

Trevor: Kids. This may sound personal, and it sort of is, Lily and Leroy are much safer with their herd. *looks scared* I see too much of my own mother in Lorraine. How she comfortably pins the blame on others, paints others as the enemy for having reasonable expectations and boundaries, how she’s beginning to become so controlling, even- *looks away* how she tries to pin folks against one another when things don’t go her way, and weaponizes the relationships of her children, and her former friendships to get what she wants…

Shiny: *face pales* …

Gilbert: *looks terrified* Is- is that why Pops doesn’t want her anywhere near me?

Trevor: Could be.

Shiny: Trevor…

Trevor: *looks at Shiny* Yes?
