This tip is for my people who are renting/buying a house or townhome with a yard/garage: If you can afford a down payment on a new car; you can afford to buy a generator and a gun. If the grid goes down, a generator will give your house power. Most generators can fit in your garage or any utility room and cost anywhere from 1-10k. Trust me, you rather spend that $1500 on a generator and keep your house operating rather than trying to manage a home without power (cook, clean, take care of kids and keep them from being stressed). In a stressful situation, throwing food in a microwave is far easier than cooking on a grill or over an open flame. And being able to protect your generator (and your resources in general) is far easier when you have at the very least a hand gun...
Get ready. Good luck...
