Jaskier/Geralt | Rated: T | WC: 3k | CW: mention of carcasses
------
Geralt was not having a very good time.
This godsforsaken trip had started with Vesemir giving him a tip. Apparently, there were rumors a leviathan had been spotted in the area (âI have it on very good authority, honestly, wolf,â) and Vesemirâs very-good-authority had traced the beast to the coastal city of Novigrad. Geralt wasnât particularly thrilled to be sent out to do the dirty work that was bestiary expansion, but was reminded quite smugly of the favor heâd owed the old man (âDonât think Iâve forgotten that time with the selkimore guts and Ciriâs prom dress, Geralt, I swear to god Iâll tell her that it wasnât Lambertâs doing,â), and so here he was.
The perils of being a modern day witcher were many, not the least of which included this new wave of humans who seemed to think witchers were Fascinatingâą and that monsters were something akin to animals in a zoo, harmless and cute. In truth, the creatures which previously skulked on the fringes of civilization had only become more dangerous over the years as theyâd learned to camouflage themselves to survive. Humans, simultaneously, had become more bold and less afraid with the invention of smartphones and the internet; they often moved right into the metaphorical backyards of monsters in search of adventure and likes on their posts, or whatever the fuck. Which, ultimately, meant more danger for them as they proved the reason behind their short lifespans, but also more tolerance for the witchers who dealt with their almost entirely self-imposed problems.Â
Fortunately for Geralt, it meant he and his brothers had consistent business at Wolfe Brothers Extermination Co. He, Eskel, and Lambert were typically sent out to complete the contracts, although they all dabbled in one specialty or another in addition to doing the grunt work. Lambert, an expert alchemist and professional pain in the ass, brewed all of their potions. Eskel, with the strongest chaos of all of them, created sign-specific training to strengthen their magic. Geralt, for his part, was the best fighter, and designed grueling personal training routines to keep them fit. Vesemir, although semi-retired in his advanced age, was instrumental in keeping them sharp on the battlefield, forcing them to train with various weapons, along with usually being in charge of all field research. That being one of the reasons Geralt was so grumpy to be out here at all, as it was not his fucking job.
Internally rolling his eyes, he returned his focus to his work. The sooner he finished, the sooner he could get the fuck out of here. He crouched to inspect the rocky shore beneath the cliff he was standing on, witcher-sharp eyes keen on his surroundings. Scanning the embankment, he found a promising clue below the bluffs of what looked to be the skeletal remains of a large sea creature. He was just about to climb down to investigate further when the damning sound of human voices drifted to his ears. Dammit all.
â---And these cliffs are the exact site a leviathan was recently spotted! Now, for those of you fine folk who donât know, a leviathan is a sea serpent resembling a crocodile who lurks deep beneath the waves you see far below us.â
Geralt glanced up, put out at being distracted, at the animated voice of a man leading a group of starry-eyed humans closer to the cliffs. He was around Geraltâs height if he had to guess, with soft, chocolate brown locks falling just past his ears. He carried himself confidently, leading the fawning group around as he regaled them with tales Geralt would bet his best sword were entirely false. He was of a leaner build, although with a sturdy layer of muscle hiding underneath his foppish clothing. Clothing that, now that Geralt paid attention to it, resembled a peacock. A very handsome peacock. The unbidden thought was shoved down with the strength of the leviathan he was hunting. What the fuck.
The other manâs melodious voice filtered into his awareness again as several members of the tour group paused to snap pictures on their cell phones. âLeviathans are quite rare these days, most of them having been killed off centuries ago. Although, my dear friends, itâs possible we might encounter one on this very day! My colleague, Valdo, is the one who spotted the beast just the other day andââ
âYouâre wrong, you know.âÂ
Geralt hadnât realized heâd spoken or walked a few paces closer to the group until a dozen pairs of eyes were staring right at him. Fuck. He usually kept far away from people unless it was for a contract, preferring the company of himself, his family, and his truck, Roach (lovingly named after his childhood pet fish, although he would never share that damning bit of information with a soul, so help him gods).
âExcuse me?â The singsong voice from earlier directed its singular fury at him, now all wound up in indignant righteousness. âIâll have you know weâre the most reputable monster tour company this side of the Blue Mountains, so you can take your feedback and shove it, you--youâwhoever you are!â
Geralt noticed, belatedly, that the manâs eyes were the same blue as the water crashing onto the shore below them, stormy like the Skelligan sea with annoyance. He wondered absently if they were the clear blue of a summer sky when the man was in better spirits. Shut the fuck up, Geralt, you absolute dumbass.
He cleared his throat. âNameâs Geralt. Iâm, uh, Iâm a witcher.âÂ
The tour group erupted in a cacophony of gasps, the cameras of the dozen or so cell phones now aimed directly at him. They fired off questions rapidly about his job, the leviathan, hunting monsters, and a number of other things he couldnât be bothered to parse from the general noise of it all.Â
âOh? And Mr. Witcher, surely youâve encountered a leviathan, then, and can tell these lovely people more about them than I can?â The other man looked affronted, crossing his arms petulantly.
âUh. Itâs justâ leviathans werenât all killed off, like you said. Itâs more likely they went into hiding. They have natural thermal resistance and can adapt to a variety of environments. Theyâre also, uh, kind of immortal. So itâs more likely weâre all too stupid to find them than that theyâre dead.â
There was dissatisfied murmuring amongst the other manâs group, one of the women in it turning her nose up at their tour guide as she remarked in a snotty voice, âWell, Jaskier, sounds like the witcher here might be a more useful tour guide. At least he has experience. Perhaps you should talk to your company about taking him on in your stead.â She tittered with laughter at her own insult.
And at that, the man spluttered, seemingly at a loss for words. Not wanting to lose the attention of the rest of his audience, however, he turned the charm back on like a lightswitch. âNow, my dear audience, although our good witcher hereâGeralt, excuse meâmost likely has plenty of experience, it doesnât sound like he's had any luck spotting the leviathan today either. If I could reclaim your attention, I can show you exactly where a nest of drowners was slaughtered just last week. If weâre lucky, the bones will still be there!â
And like children flocking to a shiny, new toy, Geraltâs unwittingly captive audience began to wander off in the direction the other manâJaskierâdirected them. Jaskier, for his part, aimed one more fuming, aquamarine glare at Geralt before veritably stomping off after his group.
Geralt was left on the cliffs, feeling vaguely uncomfortable and slightlyâguilty, was that the feeling?-- as he stared after the other man.
Well, shit.
â
It was a while later that Geralt meandered back towards his truck, slightly muddy from his stumbling trip down the cliffs to investigate the carcass heâd seen earlier, but no closer to validating the tip off Vesemir had given him. The bones had belonged to some sort of marine animal, yes, but it was impossible to tell if it was killed by a leviathan or simply a shark. So much for very good authorityâŠÂ
Geralt was still internally grumbling about the waste of time as he reached the car park. He startled in surprise when he heard the same musical voice from earlier and looked up to see Jaskier wrapping up for the day.
âAlright, lovely people, please remember to give us a good review if you liked the tour today! We at Oxenfurt Oddities would be happy to host you again anytime!â
That slightly-guilty feeling crept back up his throat at the sight of the other man, and Geralt felt like he shouldâ say something. Apologize, maybe. He hadnât meant to mess with the other manâs work, heâd just meant toâwell, he wasnât quite sure, honestly. But either way, apologizing was the right thing to do. At that thought, he straightened his spine and hung back a few paces from the group as he waited for them to disperse.Â
The moment the last person had shuffled off to their car, Jaskierâs shoulders slumped slightly and he let out a heavy sigh, moving to card a hand through his hair in a seemingly frustrated gesture.Â
Geralt stepped closer, not wanting to startle the other man, and gently cleared his throat.
Jaskier jumped anyway, turning to Geralt with wild eyes which soon narrowed when he recognized who was behind him.
âYou! And just what, pray tell, can I do for you, oh witcher-who-canât-mind-his-own-business? You almost ruined my tour today and my boss would have truly had my head if those people wanted a refund!â
âUh⊠Sorryâabout that, earlier. I didnât mean to⊠mess things up for you. Was just trying to be, uh⊠factual, I guess?â Geralt cringed at his own stilted apology, not knowing what marbles he must have lost in deciding it was a good idea to approach Jaskier again.
There was silence as the other man stared at him, still with suspicion in his eyes, before he turned his nose up with a huff.
âWell. I appreciated the information, nevertheless. Will give me more material to work with in the future. But you, Geralt⊠owe me, I think.â Jaskierâs eyes twinkled with a mischievous light as he turned his face back towards Geralt.Â
Geralt realized with a not-quite-minuscule amount of relief that the unintentional slight must have been forgiven if the other man felt like teasing. He still wasnât sure why it mattered to him.
In response, Geralt grunted, feeling heâd done his part and mostly ready to get away from this conversation and his confusing feelings. âNot much to pay you back with.â
Jaskier, eyes twinkling even brighter, now as midnight blue as the darkening sky above them and shining like stars plucked from within it, gave a pleased chuckle. âDo you like fries?â
Geralt felt the non-sequitur like a punch in the gut, his eyebrows furrowing. âDo I⊠like fries? Like⊠potatoes?â
At that, Jaskier gave a genuine belly laugh, throwing his head back in glee. Geralt swallowed thickly, enjoying the sight of the smile on the other manâs face more than heâd care to admit, feeling the pleasant flutter of butterflies in his belly. He gave himself a mental shake. What is wrong with me?
âYes, Geralt, fries. Thereâs a diner about a half mile down the road, I am dying of hunger, and I think you can repay your debt to me with some more factual witcher stories,â he teased again, and with a grin on his lips, Jaskier started off, presumably in the direction of his vehicle. He turned back to look over his shoulder when he realized Geralt wasnât following. âAre you coming or not?â
Geralt shrugged, wordlessly, before moving in the direction of his own truck. There were worse ways to spend an evening, he supposed.
â
The diner was empty, save for the waitress who kept staring at himâin either awe or terror, he couldnât really tell. She hadnât bothered them other than to take their orders, which Geralt supposed he should count as a blessing.
Jaskier sat across from him quite contently with a plate of fries as promised, along with a large chocolate milkshake. The other man was even prettier up close, with an aristocratic nose, strong jaw, and long-fingered, elegant hands. His apparent attraction to the other man was distracting, so Geralt unceremoniously turned his attention back to his burger.
âSo,â Jaskier drawled, popping another ketchup-covered fry in his mouth, âTell me everything.â
Geralt blinked, âAbout what, specifically?â
Jaskier rolled his eyes. âThe leviathan, obviously. Or another monster, I donât care. I need details, Geralt, and it seems like youâre teeming with them if your show earlier was any indication.âÂ
Geralt rubbed his chin in a thoughtful gesture, thinking of what he could tell him. âWell. Leviathans are⊠big. Monstrous, even.â
âYes, Geralt, I gathered that,â Jaskier again rolled his eyes.Â
âThey can crush a man easily in their jaws and have prehensile tails. They can also communicate with other marine animals and bend them to their will.â
Jaskierâs eyes were wide across from him, his mouth gaping open at the new bit of information. He took out a battered-looking notebook from his bag, food forgotten, and began to scribble in it. âSee, this is what Iâm talking about! You donât mind if I take notes, do you?âÂ
Geralt wryly observed he was already writing. He gave a soft huff that might have been a chuckle, not feeling the need to respond.
âThatâs about it, really. Theyâre big and powerful and you donât want to fuck with them, should you ever come across one. Which I highly doubt you will as they are, indeed, quite rare.â
Jaskier stopped writing with a pout, putting his pen down. âReally, thatâs all you can tell me? What do they look like, other than vaguely crocodile-ish? Are they intelligent? Do they really do Vulcan mind control on other sea creatures?â
Geralt took a thoughtful bite out of his burger, raising an eyebrow as something occurred to him. âI can answer your questions. But,â he trailed off, taking the time to finish his food. âThis is a bit of a one-sided relationship, wouldnât you say? I canât give away all our secrets for free.âÂ
Geralt wasnât sure what had come over him, really, but found himself intrigued by the other man. Absurdly, he found himself wanting to spend more time in his company, not the least reason of which had to do with too blue eyes, a winsome smile, and a mischievous streak. If he gave everything away now, the other man would be gone just as quickly as heâd come. Just the idea of that bothered him.
âOh!â Jaskier seemed genuinely surprised by his ultimatum. âBut what could I offer you? Iâm just a tour guide as a day job, really, I donât have much to offer by way of money.â He tapped his fingers against his glass as he thought.Â
âI am a musician, so, I couldâI could⊠write you a song? Maybe something about your⊠roguish good looks? Winning personality?â Jaskier gave a cheeky grin and a wink at that, the bastard.
The suggestion caused Geralt to smirk, thinking of the absolute fresh hell of teasing Lambert would unleash on him if that ever happened. âMeliteleâs left tit, you will.â
Jaskier sucked noisily at his milkshake, still pondering, before he suddenly brightened. âOh! I know! Geralt, howâs business lately?â
Jaskierâs trains of thought were like whiplash, a slap to the face every time. He wasnât sure how heâd ever keep up. âUh⊠fine?â
Jaskier was nodding as he gesticulated wildly, fry in hand, getting dollops of ketchup everywhere. The waitress glared balefully at him but he didnât seem to notice. âWitchers are hired via contract, yes? Although youâre lovely to look at, I canât imagine with your surly demeanor youâre any good at advertisingâbut I am! Imagine all the contracts!â
Geralt and the others did fine for themselves, really. The family business, started by Vesemir, was old school and was still run that way. They didnât engage on social media or have followers or any of that absolute nonsense, had never seen the need. People knew what witchers were, what they could doâif they needed them, they would find them, right?Â
But⊠The shop did need a new roof and some other repairs which the old man had been putting off, stating he couldnât justify the expenses. And Geralt would always take the opportunity to put away more money for Ciriâs college fund, if ever she decided to go.
Mulling it over but ultimately having already decided, he looked over at Jaskier, catching the other manâs hypnotizing eyes with his own. âWhat could you do, then? Make a⊠website for us?â
Jaskier, for his part, snorted quite inelegantly. âNo, dear man, I wonât make a websiteâwhat you need is social media presence, you need contentâyou have to engage people and remind them that witchers are out there, ready to help with all their horrific, monster-related problems!â Jaskier was almost feral in his excitement at this point, carried away by the fantasy of it all. âI could easily run accounts for youââ
âItâs a family business.â
âYes, of course, alrightâfor the family business. Weâd post a little story about a contract, share some photos of you looking positively menacing (you do a very good job of that, by the way), direct them to the business, and voila! Customers!â Jaskier looked pleased as punch with himself, crossing his arms over his chest triumphantly. âAll I ask in return are stories and maybe to tag along on some of your hunts.â
âSo? What do you say, Geralt, the almighty witcher? Partners?â Jaskier held out one ring-adorned hand to shake.
Geralt looked down at the offered hand, considering. His family could always use the money, he knew, but that wasnât really it, was it? Life was⊠not boring, not really, but routine. He woke up, he went to work, he took contracts, he went home. Ciri didnât really need him, these days, the almost-adult she was. The monotony of it all was comforting, usually, but Geralt almost longed for the days when going out and hunting monsters felt like an adventure.Â
As he looked into the crystalline pools of the other manâs eyes, a hopeful smile curving Jaskierâs pretty lips, he thought to himself that this might just be the start of his next one.
He grasped Jaskierâs hand in a firm grip, a half-smile curving his own lips. âAlright. Partners.â
here is my piece for the jaskier mini bang! thank you @jaskierminibang mods for putting this together!

the five times geralt didn't understand jaskier's relationships, and the one time he did.
1.
Jaskier was a sparkling gem, dancing across the marbled floor. He shone brightly, nearly blinding every person who dared to look at him in the face. At the same time, he was magnetic, attracting crowds of smiling people who he doted on as if he knew them all personally.Â
He also had the annoying trait of making Geralt get poetic, whenever he was near. Not that Geralt would even indulge and reveal his thoughts to the bard (that might make him unbearable), but it was an unfortunate byproduct of spending too much time with him.Â
Jaskier finished his last song, graciously bowing out of the crowd before bounding over to where Geralt was waiting on the outskirts of the ballroom.Â
âLike my show?â Jaskier asked, snatching Geraltâs wine glass from him and taking a sip. âDamn, this is good. I need to get invited to more of these, they donât skimp out here.âÂ
âYou finished earlier than I thought,â Geralt commented. He held out his plate full of finger foods for Jaskier to pick through. âThey asked you to cut your set?âÂ
âYes,â Jaskier said, crinkling his nose. He picked up a chunk of cheese and took a bite, continuing to talk. âThey hired multiple bards, so the guests donât get tired. I told them that I once successfully entertained a crowd for two entire days back in Oxenfurt, but they didnât believe me.âÂ
âTheir loss,â Geralt said.Â
âSo, they hired a up-comer from Cintra, sheâs alright, Iâve heard her before. Nothing to write home about.âÂ
âMm.â
âIâve seen this sort of thing happen at festivals, or competitions, but never like this, at a banquet. Even if they do bring out quite good wine-â another sip of Geraltâs glass to accentuate his point, âI must say Iâm not a fan.âÂ
As if on a cue, the hall broke out into music once again, a young black haired woman in a colorful dress belting out.Â
âThey are lucky I didnât stretch out The Fishmongerâs Daughter any longer than I did.â
âWe are all lucky,â Geralt remarked, stealing back his wine glass to take the last sip. Jaskier glared at him, but it seemed to be more directed at the comment than the wine being gone.Â
âWe will have to stay for the rest of the night, though. I refuse to allow for any missed opportunities to hop back into the fray.âÂ
Geralt just grunted, and waved down a servant holding a tray of wine glasses.Â
âBut now is the time that I need you to be on your guard. I caught wind that they also hired my greatest enemy to perform tonight.â Geralt tilted the wine glass all the way back before responding.Â
âMiriam Wintersons?âÂ
âNo!â Jaskier sputtered. âGood lord man, how many years have we known each other? My arch nemesis-â
âThe alderman from Lyria, the one who you swore you would-â
âWish death upon at every sunrise? Well, yes, but not him,â Jaskier tried to cut in.Â
âWhat was it that he did to anger you so?â Geralt couldnât resist asking. Jaskier, to Geraltâs surprise, broke Geraltâs gaze for a moment, looking to the side.Â
âIf you must know,â Jaskier eventually said, chest puffing up. âHe tried to short you. You were stabling Roach, and I went ahead to get you your coin, and I overheard him speaking about not paying you all that was promised on account of your-â Jaskier waved his hand at Geraltâs chest.Â
That was not the answer that Geralt had anticipated, but thankfully Jaskier didnât give him the chance to blunder.Â
âMy arch nemesis-â Jaskier lowered his voice and leaned in, regardless of the fact that they were tucked away in an isolated corner in an already noisy hall. â Valdo Marx. âÂ
âValdo Marx?â Geralt repeated, frowning. âI thought he wasnât real.â Jaskier reared back, sputtering once again.Â
âOf course he is real! Why would you think that?âÂ
âYou once told me that he as the Devilâs Apprentice, and that flowers died in the place he stepped.âÂ
âThat was just a metaphor!â Jaskier insisted, as if that was obvious. âNo, heâs quite real, and the bane of my existence. He stole the Bardic Inspiration award from me two years ago, and still hasnât let me forget it. Not to mention the atrocities to this world that he claims is his music.âÂ
âHm.â
âAnd do not forget!â Jaskier stuck his finger in the air pointedly. âHe called Toss A Coin fictionalized. Can you believe that? Fictionalized! As a bard, it is my purpose to enlighten the masses of the true stories of the world, as unbelievable as they might seem.â
âThat song is fictionalized. All of your songs are, in fact.â Geralt countered. Jaskier gasped, a hand flying to his chest, as if Geralt had just admitted to burning down a library instead of stating a fact that he had reminded Jaskier of multiple times over the years they had known each other.Â
âWhy you-â Jaskier quickly cut himself off, shaking his head. âNo matter- the only thing you need to understand is that this man is no friend of ours, as charismatic as he may seem.â
âWant me to chase him off for you?âÂ
Jaskier looked almost touched for a moment before shaking his head. âI appreciate the offer dear heart, but no. This is a battle that I must fight on my own- no, a battle that I want to, I need to fight on my own!â Jaskier stole Geraltâs new glass of wine.Â
Do you have any fav fic recs for The Witcher (TV)?
Hmmm to be honest I haven't read that many fics in the Witcher fandom. BUT I have read some
Meet Death Sitting (Various couple and rating): an impressive series with nearly 700k words and 28 works (I'm still working my way through this). Crazy world-building skill and Geralt/Jaskier/Yennefer endgame
The Ballad of Dandelion and the White Wolf (Geraskier/E): the feeling in this fic is out of this world and the porn is good too
No Filter (Geraskier/NR): another long fic (324146 words) featuring my favorite trope: idiots in love

Hello lovelies!! Here is part 4, hope that you enjoy it!! This story is going to have 7 parts instead of 5 by the way and next part is coming soon.
For those who have not read the previous parts, here is Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.
This story can be found on ao3 as well.
~~~~~~~
Our Own Little Paradise (Part 4/8)
The plan was simple enough. Geralt just had to take the letter and put it in the boat before Jaskierâs arrival. It was a straightforward and simple plan, and yet he could not help but feel nervous about it. What if Jaskier did not like the letter? Worst, what if he left?
It was with these thoughts in mind that he swam alone towards paradise. Roach had decided to stay in Kaer Morhen that day, therefore, his anxiety was his only company.Â
When he finally made it to the lake, Geralt lacked sleep and as he had skipped breakfast this morning, he felt more tired than usual. In his defense, his nervousness made it impossible to eat anything and he had spent most of the night writing the letter. Trying to put his feelings into words and finding the perfect ones was rather a hard task to do.
Once he entered the lake, he went straight to the boat and made sure that no one was there before going to the surface. The wood felt smooth against his hand as he climbed over the board and got inside the small boat. When Jaskier was there he would only be underneath it, therefore being inside it now felt strange. He was not too comfortable either, as it was too small for his tail, but it felt familiar somehow. This was the gift he had given to Jaskier in order to be closer to him. It was where the human lied down and played his lute. It was the wood he touched when he cautiously leaned over the water so as to look at the lilies Geralt used to communicate with him.
There was the lingering scent of the human in the air. It was sweet, delicate, and foreign, a mix of human fragrances that he wished he could name.
The enchanted paper in his hands had dried as soon as Geralt had gotten out of the water. The merman went over the letter again before putting it on one of the wooden seats. He then placed a waterlily beside it, before getting out of the boat and swimming away. He stopped near the mouth of the lake and hid behind the rocks that could be found there. In any minute now, Jaskier would come and find his letter, and oh gods, Geralt was definitely not ready.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Jaskier was walking towards paradise with his lute strapped on his back and a fishing rod in his hands. He never really used it but at least it was a good excuse for when he was asked why he spent so many hours outside of Lettenhove. It was a rather warm day so he was thankful that he was wearing a simple white shirt as he passed through the forest leading to the lake. He could already hear the water from afar as he quickened his pace, excited to see his new friend again. Meeting Geralt was one of the best things to ever happen to him, not that he had met him face to face, but he needed it nonetheless. His days were so much better now. They were filled with laughter, music, poetry and gifts, and stories. So many stories.Â
Geralt was a curious being, he was always asking for more when it came to humans. At first, he asked about Jaskier, what he liked, what he disliked, and who he was. He would ask about his family, his home, and his interests. Jaskier had felt seen, no one had looked so interested to know him before, and Geralt was so attentive to what he said. He would always move a Waterlily, in order to assure Jaskier that he was still listening to him. So Jaskier talked, he told him about everything he could, his childhood, his parents, his sister, his studies, his love for the arts, the first time he touched a lute, the first song he wrote, his studies at Oxenfurt, his lust for adventure, and Geralt listened. He listened, asked questions, and looked like he genuinely enjoyed their time together.
After days of childhood stories and Jaskier talking about his life, then came the questions about humans. Geralt showed interest in human customs, legends, songs, and everything he did not know about. Jaskier happily obliged and answered as many questions as he could. He found it adorable, how eager his new friend was to learn more and more each day. He also found that he enjoyed teaching Geralt about humans. Perhaps if he had stayed in Oxenfurt, he couldâve been a Professor. Not for long though, maybe for a semester or two, because what he truly wanted was to travel everywhere and be a bard.
When his own knowledge was not enough Jaskier went to the library in Lettenhove and looked for books he had not read yet. Every day he found new things for Geralt and realised that he was learning alongside him. Even if, Jaskier had graduated top of his class, he found that there was so much more out there, and being with Geralt proved so. Sometimes he could not believe that he was spending his days with an unknown entity, but here he was and said entity was so sweet to him. Every morning Jaskier would find a new Waterlily waiting for him in the boat and his room was full of them now. His sister always frowned when he would go back home with a flower in his hands but she never asked questions. Neither did his parents when he would come back and bring them fish for diner. It was all thanks to Geralt of course as Jaskier definitely could not fish, even though he had tried. His relationship with his parents was better now as well, it was not the best but at least they were not quarreling anymore. Family dinners were done in peace and his sister even helped him find new places to put his waterlilies. Each time his eyes saw the flowers, Jaskierâs mind went to Geralt and he always found comfort in it. He was so grateful to have met his new friend. He loved the hours he spent with him, he loved the little gifts he gave him, he loved how curious he was, he loved his eagerness to learn, and oh. He loved all of him.
At first, Jaskier felt a bit silly about his feelings for Geralt, it really was a thing only he would do, falling for a stranger he had never seen and with whom he only communicated using waterlilies. Geralt was such a nice and beautiful soul though so Jaskier came to terms with his feelings rather quickly, his friend was so easy to love. He was not a fool though, he knew that this was all temporary. Not his feelings, Jaskier had fallen hard and he did not think that his love would be gone this soon, but everything else though was not going to be forever. He knew that one day Geralt would come to him and say that he could not come anymore. That he knew everything he needed to and leave. Jaskier would then have to go back to spending his days in the halls of the Lettenhove castle and do his duties as a viscount. It would crush him but he was prepared for it. For now, though, he cherished every hour and every day he spent with Geralt.
Sighing Jaskierâs hands went to the small book in his pockets. It was a collection of legends and tales that he had found in town. He knew that Geralt would like it. He arrived at the lake and went to his boat when he saw a small envelope on one of the seats, besides it was a small waterlily. Jaskier frowned. What could it mean? It was obviously from Geralt but what could he want to say that could not be said using the flowers he usually used? Jaskier picked up the letter and brought it to him. His fingers went over the paper and his heart dropped. Perhaps the dreaded day had come. Maybe Geralt wanted to tell him that it was over, that he wanted to leave. Taking a shaky breath, Jaskier looked towards the water.
âGeralt are you here?â he asked.
The water in front of him trembled, which meant yes.
âIs this for me?â he continued, before showing the letter.
The water trembled again. Jaskier sighed and placed the letter in the boat again. He then pushed the boat into the water before getting on it.
âBring me to our usual place, then Iâll read it,â he added.
As soon as he sat down, the boat moved. Jaskierâs heartbeats quickened, he looked down at the piece of paper in his hands. It had felt nice, being with Geralt, he would miss it. It was to be expected though, no one stayed with Jaskier for too long. He was too much, talked too much, sang too much. His eyes stayed on the letter. It could be nothing though right? Perhaps Geralt just wanted to talk?
The boat stopped and Jaskier took a deep breath.
âAlright I am reading it,â he said loudly.
He sighed and opened the envelope. The paper was silvery and felt smooth against his fingers, he had never seen anything like it before. The handwriting was delicate and written with dark blue ink. Jaskier braced himself and started reading, expecting to find words of farewell. What he found though made him freeze, it was not a farewell, it actually was the contrary.Â
{Jaskier,
Iâve never really written a letter before so please, bear with me. Why am I writing it you may ask? Well, I have been thinking about us lately, about what we have and the trust you put in me every time you come to this lake. Day after day you come here and spend hours teaching me about the human ways. Before that, you spent hours talking about yourself and your life. I donât think that it is a common occurrence for humans to talk to strangers about their wants and fears so I realised that you trusted me. That you considered me to be your friend even though you donât know me or know what I am, and it truly makes me happy. It is such an honour for me to be the friend of such a talented and beautiful person such as you. I want you to know that I trust you too, which is why I have decided that it is time for you to see me. This letter is a way to prepare you because as you may have realised I am not human. Please, do not be scared of me, I wonât ever hurt you. If you want to leave though, I would understand. This letter is also a way to tell you about how much these last few weeks with you, are the best that Iâve had in a long time. I learned so much in so little time and Iâll always be grateful to you for the hours that we have spent together. I have always wanted to learn about the human ways, but you have taught me so much more than that with your kindness and your enthusiasm. My favourite thing about our time together though was to listen to your songs and your poems. I truly enjoy your singing and I will never get enough of you and your stories. Thank you for giving me your time and I hope that you cherish the moments we spend together just like I do.
Yours, Geralt}
Jaskierâs eyes went over the words as tears slowly filled them. His friend did not want to leave, he wanted to meet him, truly meet him face to face. Jaskierâs heart was filled with so much joy. Geralt loved their time together just like he did! And he liked his voice! A sob escaped his lips, followed by more tears. No one had ever described him with such kind words before, no one had ever wanted to stay.
He was fully crying when he closed the letter. He felt rather silly now, for being so anxious before reading it. He knew that Geralt genuinely liked their time together and yet he could not help but feel nervous about it. Now though seeing it written before him, he felt like his heart would burst with happiness. The water before him trembled and Jaskier quickly leaned over the surface. He had expected to see waterlilies but what he found stole his breath away. Two glowing amber eyes were staring at him with worry. Half the face of a person could be seen, as well as a mop of white hair. The rest though was still underwater. Jaskier took a deep breath and without breaking eye contact leaned forward.
âGeralt?â he whispered.
The head nodded slowly. Jaskier exhaled and smiled.
âGeralt, this letter is beautiful and I love it very much. I am not leaving, Dear Heart, and truly wish to see you,â he added, âAll of you.â
Geralt blinked then slowly came to the surface. Jaskierâs eyes widened as he saw his friend. The latter was barechested. He was well built, with broad shoulders and defined muscles. Half of his long white hair was tied up in a braid, while the other part went down his back, and his amber eyes were set on Jaskier. What drew the brunetteâs attention though was the wide fishtail that was found down his friendâs body instead of legs. It was made of ivory coloured scales that had a hint of silver as they went down. The end of his tail was washed with a range of amber coloured scales that matched his eyes, they went from a yellow-orange hue to a deep reddish-orange shade. He looked ethereal. Jaskier had read tales about merfolks and never had he thought that he would come to face one.
âJaskier?â a deep voice asked.
Jaskier gulped and inhaled slowly, his gaze still fixed on Geralt.
âYou are beautiful,â he whispered.
Geraltâs eyes widened as a lovely shade of red went across his cheeks, he then looked away and nodded. Jaskier smiled and got up.
âDear Heart, I am going to get into the water now, is this alright?â he asked, as he carefully put the letter, which was still clutched in his hands, on the seat beside him.
âYes,â Geralt replied.
Gods his voice, Jaskier thought. He then went overboard and slowly got into the lake. The cool water hit his skin as he began to swim towards his friend. Geraltâs eyes never left Jaskier, curiosity filling them as he watched him.
Jaskier stopped swimming when he was in front of the merman. His heartbeats were far too quick and his breath way too shallow but he did not care. The words in the letter rang in his head.
âDid you mean it?â he asked.
âWhat?â Geralt replied.
âWhat you said in the letter, did you mean it?â Jaskier asked again.
He chewed on his lower lip as he looked up at his friend.
âYes,â the merman replied.
âOh Geralt, I am so grateful to have met you too, and I cherish every moment that we spend together,â Jaskier exclaimed before throwing his arms around his friend and drawing him close.
Tears came down his face as he buried his face in Geraltâs neck. For a moment the merman stood still, eyes widening with shock. He had not expected such a reaction from Jaskier. Then as he recovered from his surprise, his arms went around the humanâs waist, before he held him close.
They stayed like this for some time, holding each other with no other care in the world. Then, Jaskier shuddered as a chilly breeze picked up. Geralt broke the hug and looked at him. He frowned as his hand went to Jaskierâs face.
âYou are crying,â he stated as his thumb brushed away a tear from Jaskierâs cheek.
âOh, donât worry love,â Jaskier chuckled, âthese are happy tears,â he added before hugging Geralt again.
He did not want to get out of the mermanâs arms yet. Geralt smiled and hugged him back, he was more confident in his actions now as drew Jaskier closer to him. The brunette sighed and nuzzled the mermanâs neck. Gods he truly was in love, wasnât he?
