Paracas Candelabra
The Paracas Candelabra, also known as the Candelabra of the Andes, is a massive geoglyph etched into the northern face of the Paracas Peninsula in Peru.
It measures approximately 180 meters (600 feet) tall and is carved into the sandy hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
The geoglyph consists of a series of deeply incised lines forming a distinct design resembling a candlestick or a candelabra, hence its name.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Paracas Candelabra is its mysterious origins and purpose.
Despite extensive research and speculation, the exact age and meaning of the geoglyph remain uncertain.
It is generally attributed to the Paracas culture, which thrived in the region from around 800 BC to 100 BC, although some scholars suggest it may have been created by earlier or later cultures.
Numerous theories have been proposed regarding the purpose of the Paracas Candelabra.
Some believe it served as a navigational aid for ancient sailors, guiding them along the coastline.
Others suggest it had religious or ceremonial significance, possibly related to fertility rites, astronomical observations, or as a symbol of worship.
Additionally, some researchers speculate that it may have been used for marking territory or as a form of communication between different groups.
