Katsuko Saruhashi was born on March 22, 1920. Saruhashi made the first precise measurements of radioactive materials and carbon dioxide in ocean water. Her work helped pave the way for restrictions on nuclear bomb experimentation in the Pacific Ocean.
Katsuko Saruhashi died in 2007 at the age of 87.
