Interesting. Another case of history being distorted as the stories were passed down through generations of humans. In Liyue the gods were glorified to an extent, but people of Liyue also tend to take deeds of other Adepti and credit Morax instead. Here in Sumeru it's the opposite. The neighboring god Rukkhadevata/Kusanali were vilified by the people of the desert, in part because the Akademiya tends to treat them poorly.
This, I think, is what Erosion really is, not a force that erodes the individual's mind, but an unstoppable force that erodes away and distorts the truth as time goes on, in which humans and their love for storytelling plays a huge part. This is what Morax feared, that the distorted history would take over his mind, warp his memories, and make him go insane. But so long as humans still exist, there's no way to stop that from happening, so instead of resisting, he chose to step down--so if he goes insane in the future he won't be as much of a danger to humans--and go with the flow, by listening to more and more stories.
What's even more interesting is the Traveler's role in all of this. As I have said before, the Traveler seems to be a mediator, by seeking out the truth of the past and resolving present conflicts with that truth. This holds true for the vast majority of the main storyline so far.
