I will always remember some advice I got after completing my 3rd novel. "You would be more successful if you stuck to one genre." -said in a very judgmental tone.

It's not that I think they are wrong - I don't. But that would be a forced, boring life for me. If it works for you, I'm super envious if you stay content writing in one genre. For me, it's like being asked to only eat one type of food, listen to only one genre of music. Only wear one type of clothes. Lather, rinse, repeat.

About half of my writing is horror -- so I get loving a genre more than others, but to only write horror? I'd be ignoring half of myself. I am a bursting multitude of ideas and colors and years and people, I am a gothic rainbow through time and space. I can't force myself into a box just because success would be less fleeting. I'm jealous of those that can do it so naturally without editing themselves. You have a gift!
