My Pokémon hot take is that Black and White only allowing you to catch the region’s new Pokémon until the postgame let you catch the ones from other regions was fucking awesome and they should do that again at some point. Design wise I think it pushed them to revisit older concepts for creature designs in new ways with all of the parallels between many of the Gen 1 and Gen 5 Pokémon. Gameplay wise I appreciate that it forces players who may tend to stick to longtime favorites to try out new Pokémon they otherwise wouldn’t have
I don’t think it should be the case every generation, or even all that often…but every now and then to have a set of games that follow the Black and White philosophy would do wonders imo. In Gen ? you have to build a team of only new Pokémon and then in Gen ?? you’re excited that this time that long time fav of yours can be on the team for the main game again. Win win!

A bit of Pokémon headcanoning that I think makes the series SO much more understandable is to stop thinking about how Pokémon say their names using human words and how object mons are based on real objects, and start thinking in reverse.
When humans began to develop language, the words for Nine and Tail came from the sounds made by Ninetales, because that was an animal that many humans had heard of, and it was easier for language to spread when people could recognize the words of the language and associate them with the animals they are already familiar with.
When humans were beginning to industrialize, they thought of how Klinklang used interlocking metal teeth rotating to create mechanical force that they converted into energy, and built their machines using gears inspired by those Pokémon. Wealthy aristocrats in Unova noticed that Chandelure was able to spread light in an extremely beautiful and elegant way, but they didn't want to get their souls stolen, so they created chandeliers in the image of those fire types.
The idea of so many Pokémon seeming to be based on human creations, and nearly all of them using "human" language to make sounds is much less silly feeling when you just reverse the roles. Real world humans have been inspired by animals for as long as we've lived. Why would the humans of the Pokémon world be any different?
