just had my top surgery referral appointment with one of the psychiatrists at Gendercare and got approved for surgery, so just wanted to share a general outline of what he asked me for reference for anyone who might be anxious about theirs and what they should research beforehand
some of his questions (not all & not verbatim exactly)
What are you looking for from top surgery, male chest reconstruction with or without nipples?
How is testosterone for you? How has it helped you?
Has being on testosterone affected any aspects of your dysphoria or heightened your chest dysphoria at all?
What triggers your chest dysphoria at the moment?
You wear a binder, what else do you do to reduce dysphoria?
Have you researched the surgeons you would like to go with?
What do you know about the risks of surgery? (I answered with general surgery risks, top surgery-specific risks, peri-specific risks because I might qualify, and then the corrections that might be needed after.)
What do you know about the recovery process?
How has your mood been in general since I last saw you?
Any new mental health diagnoses you want or need to pursue?
Are you still on your medication?
How is your support system at the moment?
Do you have someone who will help to look after you after the surgery?
Does your employer know you want to get surgery and will need time off?
Will they be okay with giving you light duties?
I've had my psych appointment with Gendercare, my endo appt is in mid January. How long after the endo appt will I actually have the testosterone in my hands? I will be getting the prescription through shared care with GP - this has already been agreed to. I'm not sure if it will be days, weeks, a month? I've waited ~4 years for hormones so far so in theory it shouldn't be a big deal, but now it's within arms length my dysphoria is just so bad, the wait is agonising.
Can any of our followers offer their experience?
I'm thinking of going with gender care. Its my understanding you see a general/psych then see a medical/endo.
Is there a certain time frame you have to see one and then the other. Because I have the money to see a general/psych and I'm wondering if I should just do it and then in a couple months I'll have the money to see a medical/endo
Hi Anon,
Gendercare do not specify how long your wait between appointments will be. But this is something you can discuss with them at your first appointment. They will be able to tell you exactly what their process is and what your time frame will look like.
However, they do specify on their website to budget for both appointments. So this is likely to allow you to be able to make the second appointment while you attend the first.
It is worth noting that if you are not already on gendercareās waiting list you could be waiting years not months now to get an initial appointment, as there waiting list has increase considerably recently, so this may give you time to save up for both appointments.
I know gendercare tells you not to send the same email to multiple clinicians, but I want to reach out to each and see what the wait times are so I can decide who it is best to go with. has anyone done this and are there any issues or consequences for emailing all three and waiting to hear from them?
Hi Anon,
Gendercare are very clear that you should not reach out to more than one clinician.
However, it would be up to you if you wanted to do this, but we would not recommend acting against what these clinicians ask.

Does anyone have any experience w Dr Dundas or Dr Bhatia on Gendercare that theyād be able to share? Thanks!
Can anyone offer their experience?
How long should I wait for a first email response back from Gendercare? Sent the triage questions to Lorimer just over a week ago. Will contact Dundas if it looks like Lorimer isn't going to get back to me, but Dundas' waitlist seems longer... It's stressing me out feeling like time is slipping away and I don't even have an appointment date yet.
Hi Anon,
Gendercareās website is very informative and while it does not give time frames it states that āwaiting times will be months rather than weeksā, so you may want to give them a few more weeks before contacting Lorimer again.
Another thing to note is that Gendercare specifically ask that you do not send the same email to more than one clinician. So you will need to decide whether you want to follow their advice or not.
Unfortunately, this process is a very long journey and while waiting is really hard, you have to be careful that you donāt show impatience with the professionals that you deal with.
Every medical professional whether they are NHS or private are really busy due to high referral numbers and unfortunately this means that everyone has a very long wait ahead and as a result these medical professionals are very unlikely to give estimates on how long it will take to get back to you.
hi, i was wondering if anyone could help give me a time frame in regards to getting an appointment with Dr. Lorimer at GenderCare to go on t?
i emailed him at the start of May this year and got a response in mid May asking me to answer the Triage questions, which i did. i havenāt heard back since, just an automated response that my email had been received.
could anyone lmk if/when to expect a response and when my appointment could roughly be?
thank you!!
