Masculinity expectations
I made this comic to play with and point out how society often pushes these examples as “not masculine enough” when that’s a dumb standard. Being a trans guy doesn’t erase the fact that I was raised with the expectations to be a woman and be feminine. But now that I’m learning what kind of man I want to be, I can take aspects of both masculinity and femininity from my life and make it my own.

As I've started to get into wearing more masculine clothes and leaning into my masculine side I've noticed life has been a lot easier. The pockets are really big, you don't have to worry about your phone falling out or carrying a bag, I've never shaved so I have no comparison but I imagine I save a lot of time and money, sneakers and boots are much easier to walk in than heels (I genuinely cannot walk in heels), if I had short hair that would be easier to manage and maintain than long, if I don't feel like makeup I just don't wear it and can enjoy rubbing my eyes as much as I want.
I'm sure beauty standards are definitely our own individual choices and not indicative of any wider societal expectations of men compared to women.

YES- there is a pervasisve undercurrent of toxic masculinity in how the MCU treats both Bucky and, oddly enough- Loki. What do both those characters have in common? They both defy traditional masculine stereotypes. I literally wrote a post on how Bucky is female-coded which you can read *here*.
Its not just the MCU though- its fandom as well. In the MCU there's a lot of refusal to acknowledge that Bucky was a victim. Why? I think its because his victimization involved his autonomy being removed.
This is a problem because we've been socially brainwashed to think men always have to be hyper- comptetent, responsible and "in control"- whether that means a position of power or simply of thier own bodies.
Men like Bucky (and Loki) who were rendered completely helpless to the point they couldn't even control their own mind and bodies are an abberation- and its an abberation society struggles to deal with. Men aren't *supposed* to be utterly helpless and at the mercy of others.
That's why people say that acknowledging Bucky's victimhood is "coddling" him- because a man who is helpless isn't a "proper" man. That's also why you get these spectacularly stupid, victim-blaming storylines and takes that Bucky needs to "take responsibility" or "make amends" for what he did as the Winter Soldier.
...because a man who doesn't "take responsibility" is a man who is seen as basically defective. In the end the fact Bucky wasn't in control is irrelevant- he *has* to "take responsiblity" anyway because that is what society expects.
...and isn't it funny that its often women who recognize there is somthing badly *off* about the way Bucky's background is depicted and treated? Men can't recognize this as victim-blaming because they can't see Bucky as a victim.
Although the writer of TFatWS who created the victm-blaming storylines and villainizes Bucky's trauma was a woman. And she has said some pretty gross things in this regard.
Transphobia and heteronormative gender expectations aside, Usamericans wouldn't have to be so worried about creeps in the bathrooms if they made it so there weren't fucking gaps in the stalls
