            The Great Diamond Authority were weak. They always were. Never did the radiant Diamonds push for more. Never did they explore the limits of what we are. Never did they ever make us more. They blinded us. Made us complacent or face death. But even they could be fooled.

            For years I worked under their rule in my assigned role, but while my body worked such tedious jobs, my mind exercised in the finer things. Every off color I witnessed, every missed opportunity, and I wondered. What could these other off color gems offer to us? What roles could they fill? What could they do that others couldn’t? Questions I never could answer.

            The news of Pink Diamond’s first colony spread fast, as did news of a rebellion. My mind caught on such a prospect that a gem could be capable of such a thing. What else were we capable of? Were we capable of such free thought and will as organics? Could we truly choose our own paths as the rebels claim? What more was available if we had such a choice?

            The war raged on until the unthinkable: a Diamond was shattered. My mind raced more than ever. If a mere Quartz could kill a Diamond, we were capable of more. I was capable of more. I truly didn’t have to work for such fragile Diamonds when more awaited me.

            In the chaos of the ending hours of the war, I slipped away. I stole a ship under the nose of the miserable Blue Diamond and left. I would not be able to keep my ship long. When things calmed down, they would notice its absence and they would find it. Once they did, they would shatter me for sure. I had to ensure that didn’t happen. Not when so much was now available.

            A horrid, sinister smirk twisted on my face for the first time in my existence. Things were finally going to change. I would finally show them everything locked away so long.
