The #StGellertmonument consists of a soaring statue of the bishop and the waterfalls underneath – looking over the white #ElizabethBridge. You can easily walk up the stairs leading to the monument and take some panoramic photos. Gellert (Gerard) was an Venetian monk and missionary who was to help to convert the native Hungarians into Christianity. However, in 1046, after the death of #KingStStephen St Gellert was killed during the rival's fight for the throne connected also with some pagan resistances. The bishop was hurled to his death in a spiked barrel from the Gellert Hill (supposedly, the monument marks the spots of the brutal execution. The 7 m high statue was erected in 1904, from the donation of #FranzJosephI.
