Two-Piece Gelfling Ensemble from "The Dark Crystal Collection" Clothing Line

"A two-piece "Gelfling" ensemble from the 1982 retail clothing line, "The Dark Crystal Collection."

The medieval-style designed ensemble is 100% suede. The top features a draped cowl neck with dropped shoulders, dolman sleeves, a dropped waistline with fringe peplum, button-up openings on either side from the hem to the cuff. The pants are highwaisted chopper style pantaloons with a dropped inseam, fitted calves, asymmetrical hems at each pant leg, with button-up openings on both sides from the waist to the hem of the pant legs that feature spiral shell-type buttons. It contains its original tags for "The Dark Crystal Collection," "Henri Bendel," and UK size 12, as well as tags safety pinned with handwritten identifying notes on them.

Designed and developed in conjunction with the production of the film, "The Dark Crystal Collection" utilized the Brian Froud's designs for the film and re-imagined them for the world of haute-couture fashion. Each piece was built at The Hampstead Workshop in London by an all-female team of designers - Shirley Denney, Ellis Flyte, Val Jones, Lesja Lieber, Diana Moseley, and Cas Willing. The original press release for the clothing line included photos of models wearing the garments, including some modeled by Jim Henson's daughter, Cheryl Henson. At the time, the clothing line was not a hot seller, but because of that (as well as its limited-run quantity to begin with) any pieces from "The Dark Crystal Collection" are exceptionally rare.

"A pair of Gelfling foam heads from Jim Henson and Frank Ozand's fantasy film The Dark Crystal, accompanied by a production script and set of storyboards from Frank Oz's horror musical Little Shop of Horrors.

The two Gelfling heads are made of foam rubber and would have been embellished in post-production with special effects. The storyboards from Little Shop of Horrors are printed, while the script of 113 pages has "Ammatronics" hand-written in the top right corner. Both Gelfling heads exhibit wear and deterioration due to age. Dimensions: (largest head) 21.5 cm x 10 cm x 19.5 cm (8.5" x 4" x 7.75")"
