While I was out running Hubby had finished the motor on the Mk1 Cortina restoration. He was lifting it into the car as I arrived back. It was freezing out there and he was having trouble getting everything lined up. I was asked to work the jack, which I did but the motor was just not happy to fall into place. I got cold pretty quickly and went inside to have a nice hot shower. He came in later and said it was all sorted, yah!
Gearbox could bring Jack back if they wanted to.
So I’ve been mulling this theory around in my head for a while, and I’ve got canonical facts to back it up, y’all. Yes, original Jack is dead. I hated typing that sentence and I super hate reading it, but fine. It definitely happened. BUT his physical existence hasn’t been totally wiped out. We’ve still got AI Jack floating around the Borderlands in gun form (the Handsome Jackhammer), and, depending on what the canonical ending for Tales ultimately ended up being, Rhys may very well have saved his copy of AI Jack, too.
Now, an AI copy does not a Jack reborn make. Obviously Gearbox can’t reuse AI Jack as a main antagonist again, but we have more than just his personality preserved! WE HAVE HIS DNA. Timmy mentions that he’s been injected with Jack’s DNA in both the Pre-Sequel and in Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC. He actually mentions it several times in the DLC, although it was probably just an explanation for the player as to why Timmy occasionally and unintentionally exhibits Jack’s personality. Although this was probably done for laughs, Gear Box set themselves up to be able to clone Jack, using Borderlands’ magical tech and science, of course.
Imagine if we could get some story missions, or even just a DLC, where Hyperion coerces Timmy into coming back so they can extract Jack’s DNA and clone him so he can bring Hyperion back to the top spot among the corporations. Except, this time around, Jack may have learned a thing or two about not fucking with Vaults and Vault Hunters, and he just wants his sweet, sweet Eridium hustle back. Or something like that, I dunno.
Stans everywhere would lose their minds, myself included. Lots of money to be made here. Money, Gear Box. Fuckin’ money.
And am I writing a fic with this exact plot? Well shit. I guess I am. Thoughts?
