"What got you all annoyed? It is not even afternoon." Siete annoyingly pesters the other Eternal and the Erune male grumbles behind his mask.
"I am not" Six curtly replies but his eyes are focused on you, the captain, his captain. Behind his mask he could discreetly follow your movements and actions.
Six brows furrow as your hand gently caresses the ears of all the Erunes you greet when you see them. And it would seem that every single one of them are looking forward to the gentle touch as well. Their heads dipping ever so slightly towards you when you get close enough.
The small action brings a smile upon your lips. Especially when some of the more standoffish Erunes lean towards your touch.
Six huffs as a certain tanned, white haired Erune tilts his back to rest lightly on your stomach as you stand behind him to talk to the other weapon contractors. Your hands gently rub the tips of his ears and the conversation continues like you aren't petting the ears of one of the most dangerous Erune on the table.
Every Erune in the vicinity of you always gets that greeting except for him. You have no qualms trying to steal his mask right off his face, however your sneaky fingers never reach for his ears.Â
To caress the ears of an Erune held meaning. Only the ones who reached a certain level of familiarity, trust and affection of the Erune were allowed that honor. While that level differs for everyone it still isn't something that was usually done in greeting, the action is reserved for a more private setting.
Or maybe it was the way Six was taught when he was younger because honestly it seems that some of the more boisterous Erunes on your crew revel in the action, going as far as pouting when you forget to caress their ears.
"Hi!"Â
Six stiffens at your greeting, his brooding didn't allow for him to notice you moved from the weapon contractors to the table where he and the other eternals are sitting.
Siete easily demands your attention with a snarky comment. Not to be out done you get into a friendly banter with the blonde.Â
The others laugh at the familiarity and occasionally chip in.Â
It was annoying, how familiar you are with everyone. How you accept everyone who asks to be part of your crew, how just accept him.
Without saying a word or even a sound for that matter Six stands, he needs some quiet and peace to mull over the feelings and desires you always seem to awaken within him.
The desire for you to rub his ears. It is ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.
The only sound that is heard is the rustling of his cloak as he moves out of the mess hall and to a quieter place.
Your eyes move from Siete to Six and you frown. You know you get on the Erune's nerves occasionally, but you like to believe you respect most of his boundaries. Especially considering you haven't even said anything to the male today.
"He seems to be in mood" you mutter while rubbing your chin in thought as you watch the eternal walk off.
At your comment Siete snorts, trying and failing to hide his smirk. "Maybe he also wants some of your tlc captain, I promise I won't get jealo- ack" Siete lets out a squawk as you hit him on the back of his head before he could finish that sentence. You roll eyes at the dramatics of the leader of the Eternals before walking away in search for Six.
"Now I am slightly jealous" Siete mumbles and the rest of the group ignores the man. Used to his behaviour regarding you.
"Six?" You call out carefully as you finally find the Eternal at a quieter part of the Grandcypher. The only sign that the man leaning against the hull heard you was the slight shrug of his shoulder and the slight tilt of his head in your direction.
That annoying mask he always insists on wearing prevents you from seeing a single clue as to Six's current mood.
"Captain"Â
The Erune acknowledges your presence verbally and you take it as a sign to move closer, close enough that you are mere touch away from him.Â
Your inquisitive eyes looking up at the mask that always hides Six's face, yet for him it feels like you could see past the mask. Easily peering past the, quite literal defense, of his emotions.
The question he wants to ask you is on the tip of his tongue. But instead he sighs, the sound a low grumble through the mask.
"So what got you so irked before lunch?" You ask, more like pry in Six opinion, though he knows it is easier to answer you. you would let the topic go, but you would worry. Going out of your way to check up on him.Â
"The way you greet the others"Â
And you tilt your head in confusion at his statement "The others?".
"Erunes"
At that you shift, your confusion morphing into curiosity. "You mean-" you start before Six nods.
In your gut you knew what it was about. You are an affectionate person, you express your love and familiarity through touch. Yet with Six you always held back a little and it would seem that he took notice.
You let out a breath of air before collecting your wits, this wasn’t Eustace who would flat out demand you pet his ears when he so desired.Â
This was Six, who grew skittish when you managed to steal his mask. He must think you did it to get a rise out of him or to tease him but for you it was more than that, it was a moment to look upon his beautiful face, to see and admire all the emotions. Maybe you should let him on that secret someday.
Careful to dance close to boundaries the male before you had set, you never dared to push him further. Afraid it would shatter this delicate bond you had forged with him. Yet to today was a rare window of opportunity for you to finally strengthen that bond.
Carefully you push the cowl of his cloak of his head, and Six swears your eyes twinkle at the way his ears twitch ever so slightly at being exposed to the air.
And for once your fingers ignore the mask and reach up. Gently your fingertips touch the fur and for a moment you stop, seeing if he would recoil.
Yet man before remains silent, unmoving, so you take the lack of his response to continue your caressing. Your fingertips firmly gliding through the fur before gently cupping the ears.
The Erune before you lets out a shuddering breath and tilts his head down, making it easier for you to continue your feather light touches.
After a few breaths his arms finally uncross themselves in favor of moving closer to you. Resting his forehead against your own. When was the last time he felt like this? When was the last time someone caressed him so gently? And when did his traitorous arms decide it was okay to wrap around your body, his own fingers exploring your back in sync with your touches.
Yet for whatever reason you don't comment on his actions, only letting out a small breath and pushing your forehead against his a little. Almost in nuzzling motion, ignoring feeling of the metal of the mask digging into your skin.
In this quiet corner of Grandcypher, Six felt warm and safe. Like he wasn’t an Eternal, like the tragedy that befell him never happened. Here with you in his arms he is home and it feels like he has always been there.
