You know, for as much as Gerson/the Hammer of Justice feels like a massive departure from the previous Bonus Bosses in terms of Personality and Vibes, he does actually share one very important trait with them.
The Hammer of Justice still retains the connection/reference to Gaster.
Because back in Hometown, Gerson actually fulfils a very similar role to Gaster's role in the Underground. They were both Alphys' predecessors.
