Montevideo sits along the Río de la Plata, one of the largest estuaries in the world. An estuary is a body of water where river water and ocean water mix, creating a dynamic environment shaped by tides, sediment, and changing currents. The water here is often brown from suspended sand and silt carried downstream, though it can take on many colors depending on light, weather, and conditions.
