The clouds put on a display over the Strait of Juan de Fuca yesterday (7-30-25), so I rushed down to Joseph Whidbey State Park to get a few pictures. We were not disappointed.

A night image of my second favorite Bridge in Portland (my favorite is the St Johns). This one was taken from Tom McCall Waterfront Park near Riverplace. Of all of Portland’s bridges, Hawthorne is lit up the best at night.

I’ve been disappointed here many times by the lighting and by the water level. I wanted to get it at low tide, when all of the rocks are showing, and with decent light. I managed to get of what I wanted in June. Some fluffy clouds would have been helpful, but we don’t get everything we want, do we?

Sunset at Low Tide, Taft, Oregon
©2025 Gary L. Quay
Taft, Oregon. The sunset color faded, and then came back with a vengence just after we drove away. Luckily, we had not gotten past the next parking spot. Low tide revealed a network of channels in the bay, and the sunset lit them in red.
Thise are the real colors.
