Born on this day: flamboyant bejewelled pianist, “Mr. Showmanship”, flaming creature and perennial kitsch icon, Liberace (né Władziu Valentino Liberace, 16 May 1919 – 4 February 1987). When I was in Palm Springs with friends in April 2025, we drove past Liberace’s baroque former residence. It’s still gloriously intact and didn’t disappoint!
