Part Three of Missing Scenes. Part One | Two | AO3
~
He’d passed Silk and his Grandfather lounging in one of the smaller halls, moving quickly as he didn’t want to get roped into their company.
Garion flushed at the thought. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to talk to them, rather it was he didn’t want them to put him in a position whereby he might need to lie to Aunt Pol…
They’d know he had avoided them anyway. You couldn’t hide from either very much. And Garion had more important things on his mind.
At first he thought he was wandering the hallways he would forever more call home aimlessly, but as he came to the Hall of the Rivan King Garion realised this was where he’d been heading all along.
The revealing of his kingship felt like ages ago although it had been mere hours, and like earlier the doors swung noiselessly open as he raised his hand.
The Orb brightened as he entered, bathing the room in its blue glow. It was almost singing at him and Garion had to concentrate to hear the words. He sighed and half smiled when he worked them out.
“Belgarion! Belgarion! Belgarion!”*
It seemed to still be celebrating, and a wave of fondness washed over Garion. The Orb responded in like, the blue light softening a little and the words dimming to a burble.
He crossed the room and sat on the throne beneath the great sword.
Suddenly Garion felt quite small on this huge throne in this great hall. What was he doing? He was a simple Sendar! What did he know about ruling not only one kingdom but being the Overlord of the West?
There was a dry chuckle in the back of his head and suddenly Garion felt quite angry.
‘Why didn’t you tell me?’
“You know why.”
‘No, I really don’t. Everyone seems to have been in on this except for me!’
Without realising it Garion had jumped off the throne and begun to pace the floor. The Orb quietened down even more and the blue brightened once more, but Garion ignored its attempt to comfort him.
The Voice was still there, he could sense it, but it said nothing. The silence, punctuated only by the soft sound of his boots as he walked, stretched on until finally Garion could bear it no longer and he hurled himself back onto the throne.
‘I get why I couldn’t touch the Orb beforehand, why Errand had to carry it, but why didn’t anyone tell me who I was?’
He was aware that the words sounded almost like a plea, and perhaps a little petulant, but as he spoke that terrible sight of Torak stirring in his sleep chilled him once more.
And Garion found that he knew the answer. Had always known the answer. Just hadn’t realised it…
“No one intended to belie to you, Garion. You needed to find your own path. If the others had told you who you were you may have been influenced by their thoughts and ideas. It could have fundamentally changed who you were, who you would become.”
For once the Voice wasn’t being amused or sardonic, and there was a warmth that enveloped Garion. He relaxed and the Orb responded in kind, shifting the tone of its murmuring to match his feelings.
‘I still have so much to learn.’
“You do. But as we discussed before, you have people who can help you. Let them teach you.”
‘Will they stop me making mistakes?’
The Voice chuckled.
“You will make many mistakes, Belgarion, but I shall help guide you when it matters.”
‘Thank you. I think.’
But the Voice was already gone.
The Orb pulsed and absentmindedly Garion reached up to pat it affectionately.

Continuing my Fate Breaker reread with Chapter 36 (On the Matter of Small Things, Charlon):
1. Charlie, on himself: “He was mortal, and one of the useless ones at that. Even their enemies hardly paid him any mind.”
I am not the person to write Charlie fanfic, but someone needs to send this poor man on some more adventures. 😭
—
2. I like the conversation between Isadere and Charlie; the talk of faith, the ways they share it and the ways they don’t.
—
3. ALSO the foreshadowing of what Isadere saw in the mirror, the vaults of Iona and the red light coming from down below. 😭
—
4. Me at the blooming roses in the courtyard: 👀🫠
—
5. Charlie, on Sorasa: “Indeed, Sorasa spent most of her days near the castle barracks, drilling Corayne for hours on end, with Dom and Andry watching over them both.”
I love that Dom just wants to hang out with Sorasa, and Andry just wants to hang out with Corayne. Obviously, they’re all invested in Corayne, but still.
And then: “Domacridhan and the surly assassin snapping at his heels.
Though she doesn’t snap at him quite so often these days, Charlie thought with a smirk.”
Everyone sees it but them. 😌
—
6. On Garion’s apology for choosing the Guild: “The words were not worth the pain on Garion’s face, nor the regret they both carried.”
Honestly, what a mature thought.
Again, I am begging for Amhara flashbacks with Sorasa and Garion, more lore on the Guild! Somebody write some hurt/comfort bullshit for me to cry over. 😭
—
7. Garion, to Charlie: “I suppose I could have gotten myself exiled like Sorasa.”
Charlie: “True.”
Garion: “Though she was always his favorite. He would have killed the rest of us for disobedience. But not her.”
I want to know if this is true, or just Garion’s perception. I don’t know how it works to transfer leadership of the guild, but it’s my own personal headcanon that Mercury might have been training Sorasa for such a thing, only to be immensely disappointed for her to reject it.
Continuing my Fate Breaker reread with Chapter 27 (The Worst Possible, Charlon):
1. Charlie, to Garion about the stable hands: “The first time I don’t use counterfeit coin, they turn up their noses at it.”
Love a little humor. 😂
—
2. Garion, to Charlie: “Besides, Queen Erida isn’t going to jump out of a closet and punch you in face.”
The fun part of having so many couples is all the different banter between all of them. 😌 But also, picturing this specific example absolutely sends me.
—
3. Charlie trying to find his place in saving the world. 🥺 I swear I would be Charlie in a fantasy setting, except not even half as useful.
—
4. I love seeing how different Garion’s approach is from Sorasa’s. She’s all dark corners and eavesdropping while he’s charismatically striking up conversations.
—
5. Charlie mailing off Andry’s letter to his mother. 😭 That’s so sweet of him, and it feels like something earlier Charlie would have scoffed at.

Continuing my Fate Breaker reread with Chapter 16 (To Be Enough, Charlon):
1. On the Elders of Sirandel: “The Elder company provided more than enough [food] for three mortals. Sometimes too much. They clearly had no idea how much any of them ate, or how often.”
Just a fun flavor detail. 😌 Especially because I imagine Dom and some of the Elders of Iona have some idea of how much mortals eat (prior to the adventures of Realm Breaker) due to raising Cortael.
—
2. It shows so much growth, the fact that Charlie can put the pieces together of why they should go to Castle Vergon when he wants nothing more than to run away from it.
—
3. Charlie, to Garion: “‘I will try. That’s what you said in the forest. That you would try to believe.”
Garion: “I’m surrounded by immortals about to assault a dragon’s nest. I certainly believe you now.”
Charlie: “I need you to believe in me, too. Help me believe in myself. And help me stay alive.”
This conversation is so sweet and so real. 😭 As someone who’s married to their high school sweetheart, that, “I need to be allowed to grow,” conversation hits home.
—
4. Charlie, to Garion: “Stop giving me the chance to give up.”
STELLAR LINE. I am so proud of Charlie. And Garion, too, for listening.
—
5. HELL YEAH, MORVAN THE DRAGONSBANE. I loved finally getting to learn a little more about the black knight. I know we never really get too much info on him, but I think that’s a post-series adventure FOR SURE.
Continuing my Fate Breaker reread with Chapter 11 (Their Souls Together, Corayne):
1. On the clothes given to Corayne in Sirandel: “There was also a cloak of Sirandel, embroidered with foxes, the hood lined in impossibly soft fur. It reminded her so strongly of Dom’s Ionian cloak that she could never wear it.”
Damn 😭
—
2. Valnir, to Corayne: “They only need rope to hang you mortals. For us, the executioner must use weights and steel chain.”
What all can scar an Elder? I think it’s mentioned somewhere that weapons of the Ward can’t (hence Dom’s scars from the Ashlanders). I imagine there’s just a different line between what constitutes a lethal injury and a non-lethal injury when it comes to Elders. But when Dom got stabbed in Ascal, if he’d gotten stabbed by like a Vederan weapon, would he have died? Would it have scarred?
—
3. As Valnir is explaining Glorian to Corayne, I find it so interesting that the Elders were basically missionaries.
Also, Iona was already established when Valnir and Eyda were exiled, and Iona didn’t want them. So I imagine that some of the Elders were in other realms to spread Glorian’s light or whatever before the Spindles fell out of crossing? And they just stopped doing that once they couldn’t go home anymore?
—
4. What does it mean to be of Spindleblood? Like, is Old Cor a specific realm? Was it born of the Spindles? What does that mean? I’m really enjoying learning the history of the Spindles and the other realms. 😌
—
5. When Valnir says only two Spindleblades survived to enter this realm, does he mean the rest were destroyed in Glorian? Or that more blades could be in other realms?
—
6. Corayne and Charlie’s reunion is ADORABLE. Honestly, I’m so glad they’re the first to reunite; I feel like they need it the most.
—
7. Corayne’s little “oh” at meeting Garion. 😂
Corayne, to Garion: “A pleasure to finally met you. Charlie’s told me next to nothing.”
Iconic, love her.
—
8. The detail about immortals being bad healers is a wonderful little tidbit of world building.
—
9. Charlie, to Garion: “If this has all been a trick to assassinate Corayne, I will never forgive you.”
I laughed the first time I read it, and I laughed now. Their relationship is adorable, and I’m so glad we get to see more of it and learn more about them. 🥹
—
10. Listen, I get how Corayne could think Dom and Sigil and Sorasa are dead, but she knows Valtik took Andry. Why would she think him dead as well if she thinks Valtik is alive?
