anyone wondering about stores that are safe to shop at when it comes to standing for DEI and pushing back against things happening with ICE and other government agencies- i work for Gap, which owns Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Athleta. this morning i received a message for corporate that if ICE (or other police forces/government agencies) comes into our store, we are to immediately escort them away from employees and customers, ensure there is NO identifying employee documentation in view, and inform them we will not be speaking with them without calling our legal team so they can speak directly with ICE.
in short form- corporate told us not to say shit to the cops, protect our employees and customers, and let the companies legal teams deal with them.
gap is a brand that has stood for minority communities since its founding. and yes, it’s still a corporation, but of the ones i could work for, it’s nice to work for one that backs up its bullshit with action.
and we have good jeans.
