Speaker at GameIS 2008
Global Game Jam
The Global Game Jam is the largest game development of the year and also my favorite time of the year.
Some History
In Israel this has been running since 2009 and the first year I joined was 2010. I did not know much about game development or design and I joined a team and touched the Unity engine for the first time. It was incredible. Building, designing and making a game from scratch with so much pressure of time was really hard but during the process I had tons of fun.
The game we (With Yuval Markovich from nitako) created was called Object Space and it is playable until today (U'll need LAN to play it) and is a multiplayer deceit\deception game.
One player will play the shooter from a first person view and he roams a gloomy room trying to protect what little red matter left with his gun and flashlight. The room is filled with boxes which all look the same.
The second player will have top down view of the room and is able to see where the first player is looking - He will play a box which looks like all the other box in the room and needs to collect all the red matter without the first player killing him.
The response was incredible... I have friends who play this game until today and the total session time for one session is ~6 hours.
In Israel that year we also won best GGJ game award and I can tell you the feeling is incredible - to appreciated for something you created and people play, enjoy and have fun - There are few experiences compared to this.
In 2011 I participated again and also had a lot of fun and then in 2011 I decided to create a new site in Israel in Jerusalem.
For the past 2 years the JLM site had around 60 people making games and having a lot of fun in a very inspirational setting.
This is year will be the grandest as we finally found our home for future years at the incredible Hensan Hospital - Design and Technology complex.
This year I intend to go back to game development and design at the event after I produced it for the past 2 years - Can't wait for it to start!
Also this year we got official approval to start early so we are going to have a FULL 48 hours like the rest of the world.
23-25 January - See you all there!
