Lancaster Castle has a history of convicting people of very minor or wrongly accused crimes. The Devices and Chattox family were accused of communing with the devil and using magic to cast illness on the Pendle villagers. The 11 men and women were found guilty and were hung on Gallows Hill.

According to the records 327 years ago #salem #witches were #hanged on #gallowshill - but in spite of being named in over 1000 documents, nobody knew precisely where the hill was until 5 years ago - on an abandoned trash filled piece of land behind a Walgreen’s - on land once owned by a descendant of #johnproctor.
