HAPPY PRIDE i write hesham/gabriele fluff when im sad. you can have snippets of 1 and 2. (it will probably be part of a hesham first person pov fic thats crypsis prologue kinda. idk i just like writing him.)
And while he pointed at the stars, excitedly describing the patterns and meanings behind them, gesturing wildly with his one hand and squeezing the other in mine, I realized I loved him. I didn’t say it then.
and:
I didn’t open my eyes once I woke up. It must have been a dream. Instead, I found my hand to his bare chest and inhaled deeply. A combination of sweat, menthol cigarettes, and the lingering tang of his lemon cologne. It was him. Only him.
I shifted under the sheets and pressed my face in the crook of his neck, and inhaled again.
Gabriele stirred. “Cucciolino,” he mumbled. The early morning made his voice more raspy than usual. The early morning had become my favorite time of day.
I paused, finally opening my eyes. “Did you call me a dog?”
“No, silly.” His finger traced the bridge of my nose. “You’re sniffing me. Like a puppy. It’s sweet.”
I laughed and shook my head. It did not matter what he called me.

Hi, fan of your Devil Comic and your Cameliia comic! (Let’s be honest, she got what she deserved.) I hope you’ll give us Devil Galfrey by the end of the comic, it’s a shame Owlcat couldn’t give us a preview of what she would’ve looked like.
hello, anon! first of all thank you!! and secondly Galfrey will not trun into a devil at the end of the comic unfortunately :(
i will however share what i have for Devil Galfrey as of now!!
here she a Coarti or Messenger Devil. Coarti devil are sometime fallen celestial, sometimes celestial trapped in contract or severing for a "greater good" and sometime they are mortal that would have become celestial if they hadn't been bound to hell by a contact. it fit what happens to Galfrey really well imo. i think eventually she would be turned into an Eriny but thats far down the line.
this design also isnt set in stone yet i may change it later

off the top of your head: notes for characterization? what are the most essential traits of this character to you (personality traits, important connections/dynamics, voice)?
ah ok so the thing about Galfrey is that she is so reluctant to let herself be just a person. she's a Symbol, and that's how she's used to being treated. this results in her having two modes: 1) Queen Galfrey, where she is confident and respectable and righteous and kept at a distance from other people because she can't let them see that their Queen has insecurities, and 2) just Galfrey, who has kind of forgotten how to function on a basic, person-to-person level and is now fumbling her way through it
it's also so important when thinking about her motivations to remember that she literally does not think she belongs to herself- she belongs to her country and her goddess, and she will plainly tell you that she can't allow herself to do anything that might distract her from that, no matter how much she wants to. it's a double-edged sword of selfless devotion and a lack of identity outside of her role as queen that makes it very clear why she does the things she does!
2. adjacently—do you think fandom does the above traits justice? why or why not?
ok. so. i have gotten very good at curating my own sphere of fandom. but. if i step outside my own dash and look at what the wider internet has to say about galfrey i do end up wanting to tear my hair out.
and people always end up doing this with npc's who dare to disagree with or, god forbid, have the agency to act against the main character. especially when that npc is a woman. and i know i'm preaching to the choir to anyone who would be following me, but yeah, a lot of the fandom just ignores anything nuanced or interesting in her character and just declares her to be a 'stuck-up glory-stealing bitch who's just so so so mean to my poor widdle knight-commander who's never done anything wrong in their entire life and deserves to have her kiss the ground they walk on' and i'm just gonna stop before i get any more frustrated than i already am
3. throw this character at any other character of your choice to bounce off each other as outsider pov to each other— regardless of timeline or logistics (crossovers allowed if you’re interesting about it). why this combination? what insights would they have on each other?
well we all know i can rotate Galfrey and Cleo in my head all day long lol i am just so enamored with the dynamic of characters who challenge each other in ways that force them both to grow and in the process learn to understand each other...there's a reason it's a classic trope!
and honestly, any romanced KC is gonna have great dynamics with her. a lot of her deeper characterization is hidden in the romance arc, which is disappointing on a broader scale because it limits the interaction with her in other runs. on the other hand it does make the romance feel very rewarding because you really feel that she lets her guard down with the KC in a way she doesn’t do with anyone else
4. how do you think you would react to this character in real life and vice versa? would you prefer be a million miles out of range, be amicable classmates, or fall desperately in love? (bonus: arrange a hypothetical date between yourself and this character. getting silly with it is encouraged (fakedate them! escape a dinner date through a bathroom window!))
ha that depends so much on how silly i'd get with a 'modern au' Galfrey. on a basic level we do have some things in common (mainly in the vein of being perfectionists with specific ways of doing things) so we'd at least have a lot to talk about!
5. ideal flavor of rotating for this character? crack them open and dissect them— do you want them tormented, pining, or being loved + comforted? do you have any specific scenarios you like to think about?
oh there are endless ways i love to torment Galfrey (shout out to her corruption arc it’s SO good)
but my *favorite* flavor/scenario can be summed up in that scene when she half-confesses to a romanced KC at the end of Act 3, and is trying to explain to them all the reasons why she's not allowed to want to be with them but can't even bring herself to say she wants that kind of thing in the first place, and the KC gets to tell her she deserves to be happy on her own terms, and she's so close to breaking down but manages to keep her composure because she's the Queen and that's what she does and even if she loves this person she’s going to betray them because she’s convinced herself that’s what she has to do. 10/10 no notes amazing scene.
6. weave a web of dynamics through the cast for this character: which dynamics are you most interested in? both canonically and through extrapolation/speculation— which dynamics are the richest to you, and why?
i want to see more of her dynamics with the people she works with!!! we see a bit of her with Anevia and Irabeth, but what are her relationships like with her generals and advisors and important nobles? Irahai isn't even in the game and seems to have barely any canon content but she’s gotta be a really important factor in Galfrey’s life and i want so badly to know what their relationship is like!
the Devil Path patch did give us a wonderful dynamic with Galfrey and Laya, the squire who reminds Galfrey so strongly of herself as a young idealistic girl, and i loved what they did with that- i want more of that kind of thing!
7. do you have particular niche takes on this character? defend those takes. (openly controversial takes are permitted, but also: hyper-specific headcanons which you believe in and no one else has considered enough to disagree with yet. pick a hill to die on.)
*deep breath*
yes, galfrey's decision to send the KC to the abyss was driven by her own insecurities- but she also has some pretty damn decent reasons for not letting the KC just do whatever they want. every mythic path except Angel involves using dangerous, mysterious powers that range from unpredictable at best to straightforwardly evil at worst, and there is no oversight to this. i know we don't need to think about this too realistically because being Powerful and Special like that is just kind of the point of most video games, but it is entirely possible to end the game with the KC as more of a threat than the Worldwound ever was. only the Angel path fully escapes this, and that path is the one where the KC's 'replacement' of Galfrey in the Crusades surely feels the most blatant! opinions on the character aside, isn't it just more fun to acknowledge that and do something interesting with it than to write the character off completely? even my OC's who have negative opinions of Galfrey and don't forgive her for what she did still have dynamics with her that i find compelling just by nature of the conflicts between them being one that's fun to pick apart and analyze. sometimes other characters acting against the main character’s interest makes for a better story.
on a second, unrelated note: Galfrey spent most of her life repressing her desire for intimacy but once she breaks past that restraint and lets herself feel things again she is so horny
ooh i gotta throw out bad idea! for this one! it took me forever to write but it was such a fun time of self-indulgence:
bad idea! (pwotr, Knight-Commander/Wenduag/Galfrey)
Wenduag wanted to prove her superiority. Galfrey wanted to indulge her vices. Lilith wanted to reap the rewards promised by her devil's plot.
Was it a bad idea? Maybe. But there was only one way to find out.
