Galéon San-Pedro- Illustration of a 1621 Spanish Galéon, by Edouard Groult, 2022
A commission for @airplanetunez , a galeon from an old map, painted sea pottery, sea glass, driftwood and pearls
Toyr!se Genesic GaoGaiGar
This is my first version of Genesic, only having handled versions of GaoGaiGar's other incarnations. And I picked a pretty good one to start with. It's a very solid toy, with none of the fragility and far less tedium than some of the other GGG toys I've handled previously. But boi so wide! I'm having trouble finding a shelf to put him on.
The Good: Like the previous Toyr!se figure I've handled, this is a very playable toy. All the stylings of a DX toy, with added posability and features. Galeon and Gaigar are both pretty solid and posable figures on their own, the Gaos are very minorly fiddly and play well with GaiGar even outside of the full combined mode, and there are so many extra little things you can do with them that you never seen in the animation.
Genesic isn't as big as ExKaiser, but it still feels its price point, due to a lot of the simple but dedicated engineering and tons of parts. Once it's together, it's a super solid combination, and I've had no issues with it coming apart or getting misaligned. It's also still quite posable, retaining its waist, some neck, and all the other expected joints. It's very well designed.
It has a few accessories. Two different arm attachments, three screwdriver bits, an open fan for the left arm, and big hands to do the thing.
The Bad: There are a few small problems. The first one I noticed is the click to get Galeon's head in place is a bit too tight, and the paint in that area chipped immediately. The plastic is fine, but it's a bummer that wasn't left unpainted if that may have been a known issue. There are also a few other parts on him that barely have enough room to get into place.
And Gadget Gao is the one piece I would say is actually fiddly, at least when going into Genesic. You have to get all this stuff aligned to get it to snap on, and while it's solid once together, something is always going to be misaligned on your first try.
Overall, it's the best GaoGaiGar figure I've personally handled. I know there's a lot of them, but it's so playable and fun and easy to pose for such a seemingly complex design. If you're a fan, I'd definitely suggest at least handling one. And We've got GaoGaiGar and GaoFighGar on the way. Let's hope the whole team gets this treatment, as well.

Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale, Part 3
The more of these I do, the more I start to realize that the character designers of GaoGaiGar did have a sense of scale to start with. Then the series suffered power creep, the challenges faced by The Heroes increased in crazy, and things progressively ballooned into the outlandish.
…setting aside a giant robot anime targeted at kids is by default outlandish.
No jokes about doors this time, unless you mean a 10 meter (32 ft) tall cat door. That’s right - it’s time for Galeon!
