How to Upgrade from G2 to Full G License
Content: In Ontario, the G2 license is the second step in the graduated licensing system. To get your full G license, you must pass a second road test (G test), which includes highway driving and more complex maneuvers.
You can take this test 12 months after getting your G2, or as early as 8 months if you’ve completed a certified driver education course. The G test assesses skills like merging onto a highway, lane changes at high speeds, and safe exit ramps—areas many drivers are less practiced in.
Practicing regularly on highways and reviewing driving techniques is key. Don’t rush into the test unprepared.
