Detroit: Reconstructed, 12/7/17 Fyfe’s Shoe Store, 1919 Smith, Hinchman, Grylls with monument to Hazel S. Pingree ( The Idol of the People) #8x10 gelatin silver contact print
Cass Gilberts Woolworth building 1913 in New York established a precedent for Gothic commercial architecture. Fyfe’s Shoe Store in Detroit built in 1919, continued that tradition in a 14 story structure. Designed by Smith, Hinchman and Grylls, this handsome building with soaring vertical lines and deep window reveals stands as a landmark at the head of the busy thoroughfares that converge at Grand Circus Park.
