Bucky and the rest of the team dragged their feet into the living room. Another day, another mission. Everyone was exhausted. All they needed was five minutes just to close their eyes and rel—
"You guys have about 2 minutes before Valentina walks in with your next assignment," you announced and every single person snapped their eyes open.
"Oh, c'mon, when the hell did you get here?" John groaned. A little down the couch, Ava grabbed a throw pillow to cover her face.
With his eyes opened, Bucky could see you standing at the threshold with your trusty tablet in hands. Unlike him and everyone else, you stood in crisp and neat clothing, hair definitely put together, ready to work like always. You always were.
"I'm not kidding. She's on her way," you repeated and walked a few steps into the room, your heels clicking behind you.
"Y/N, we just got back," Yelena groaned. She laid on the sofa chair, her legs dangling over the armrest. "You should tell her if she walks in here with another stupid assignment, she runs the risk of being thrown out the balcony."
You smirked. "That would be very un-Avenger of you." You walked up to them at the couches and took in their rugged and worn out states. "I'm sorry, I wasn't able to hold her back. She says it's important."
"Every mission is important, according to her!" John exclaimed.
"This one's easy. Alexei already took off to take the lead."
A collective groan left everyone's mouths.
"Of course he did," muttered Yelana who closed her eyes. "Ten minutes. I want ten minutes to take a nap. Is that too much to ask for, y/n?"
"Guys, it's not y/n's fault," Bucky cut in, earning your appreciative nod. "Valentina works her as much as she works us."
God knew that y/n had to deal with Valentina's crap almost as much as the team did. You were the 'new avengers' publicist and more than that, Valentina's coordinator for just about everything. Anything that had to be done went through you, and you always got it done.
"Minus the deadly fighting stuff," you added. "But I do work very hard, thanks Bucky. I'll see you in a bit?"
Bucky nodded at you. "We'll be in the meeting room in ten."
You smiled. "Thank you." She eyed the rest of the team before leaving.
As soon as you were gone, the rest of the team started groaning again, throwing multiple jabs at Bucky for his interference.
"You always do this!" John exclaimed.
"Stop dragging us into your love life!" Ava's muffled cry was perfectly heard by Bucky.
"Seriously, Bucky, if you like her, take her out on a date. Don't give us more work to do just to get on her good side!" Yelena gave Bucky a stink-eye.
"What?" Bucky looked at all of them annoyed. "She just told us that we had work—"
"That's her job, she's always going to tell us we have more work," said John, deadpanning Bucky. "But we would really appreciate it if you got on her good side without dragging the rest of us into it."
Ava raised a silent thumbs up beside him.
"Okay, you're all stupid and we have work to do. Now hurry up," Bucky got up and walked past them, kicking Ava's leg that was dangling off the couch.
She pulled the pillow off her face, revealing glaring eyes, and sat up. "Seriously? We don't get those 10 minutes?"
"Let's go!" Bucky called.
True to your word, Valentina had arrived within the next 2 minutes and was waiting for the team in the conference room. Bucky could hear her start complaining to y/n about their tardiness and how incompetent it was from your part.
"Knock it off, Valentina, we're here," he said as he walked (faster) into the room. He hated hearing Valentina talk down to you. She liked to think that everything could be done perfectly without you when everyone knew that by herself, Valentina couldn't do three things in a row without messing up.
Bless your heart, though, you never complained. You were used to it and usually brushed off the snide comments.
Bucky, however, never forgot each comment. It was why he always tried following your instructions and plans on the first go, why he always made sure that everyone else never gave you a hard time for all the work you asked from them. You were the sweetest, most professional person he had ever known and you only deserve the best.
So…maybe he did like you a little bit. He thought he was a little more subtle about it but according to the others, he wasn't. Still, you never seemed to catch on so maybe he wasn't all that obvious.
Valentina presented their newest mission, which in truth wasn't that bad as the one they had just come from. It was a simple collection mission with an estimated short time duration. They would be back in two days tops. No one was happy about it but they each went to shower and get ready.
You were in the living room again going over a few details on your tablet when Bucky re-emerged freshly changed. You looked up from the couch with a kind smile.
"You're looking better," you remarked, "Sorry you have to hop on another plane again."
"Not your fault," Bucky said, coming over to you. You straightened up and shifted to face him once he sat down. "I don't think you're in charge of the mission schedules."
"The rest of the team seems to think I am," you said, scrunching your nose. "Trust me, if I was, I'd be spreading them out way better than Valentina."
"They're idiots, trust me," Bucky said, and you chuckled softly. He smiled at that. You were very pretty when you laughed.
"If you need anything, let me know," you said after a while. "I'm making the weekly order tomorrow. Bob's requested more frozen fruit for smoothies. He's really into them right now. I won't tell you what Yelena requested."
Bucky smiled with you and agreed it was best to keep that request a secret. "What about you?" he asked suddenly and caught you off guard.
"Huh?"
"What about you? What do you need this week?"
You blinked at the question and chuckled out of sheer confusion. "I don't really — I don't really make personal orders. Val would kill me if I used 'Avenger' money for my own needs."
"But you're here like 24 hours anyways. You should get what you need and leave it here. What's your favorite go-to snack?"
"It doesn't really matter, Bucky…"
"Yes, it does. C'mon," he gave you a little gentle nudge on your side, "first thing that pops into your head. What is it?"
You gave it very little thought, honestly. "The apple-cinnamon fig bars from the Nature's bakery brand."
"See? You should add those to the list!"
"I'm-I'm not doing that, Bucky," you insisted, "Valentina would literally kill me."
"Over fig bars? You've stayed at the tower anyways when we're all working late."
"Exactly, for work," you reminded, though memories of late night movies with the team and take-out dinners didn't exactly fit with the 'work' idea. "Usually anyways…"
Bucky knew what you meant and chuckled. "C'mon y/n, you and I both know that this team — Valentina herself — would not be able to function without your hands."
You flushed and chuckled, this time very, very nervously. "I mean…that might be a little bit of an exaggeration. I can't do half the things you guys can. Not even a quarter of it, actually."
"Brains over bronze any day," said Bucky clearly. "And you definitely have the brains, y/n. Don't let Valentina tell you otherwise."
Your flush grew stronger and you found the only way to fight it was by ducking your gaze and focusing on your tablet. "Thanks, Bucky."
The sound of footsteps and indistinguishable murmuring broke the moment. Bucky and y/n looked over just as the team started coming in. Soon, the team was gone and the tower was empty again.
These were, as you called it before, 'slow days'. You wouldn't say it out loud but you came to miss the chaos that the new Avengers typically brought on a daily basis. Whether it was the usual arguments between Ava and John, Alexei's constant pushes for "more advertisements", Ava and Yelena finding ways to ruin John's day, or poor Bob trying and failing to keep the peace amongst them — it was always chaotic, never boring.
The slow days were just that — slow. This was the time where Valentina pushed you even more to have things ready for when the team returned. These were the 'behind the scenes', if you will.
Unbeknownst to the team, these were also the days you spent the most time in the Tower. You definitely slept over sometimes, which was why Bucky's suggestion of adding your own personal things to the list was more present in your head than ever.
You would love some snacks right now, but God knew how much John would explode if you touched any of his things. Ironically, he was the one who ordered the most snacks. Bob, on the other hand, wouldn't mind if some of his things went missing. You would replenish it in the next weekly order.

The team was in and out of the tower after their last mission. They spent possibly about a day or two before they were shipped off again. You, unfortunately, missed out on seeing them.
When you finally returned, you found Bob reading a book in the lounge room.
"How fortunate we are to see you out of your little cave," you joked on your way in.
He peered up from his book with a grin on his face. "It's not that sunny today." He made a slight nod at the windows. He preferred to put himself up in a sunny spot when he read. It made things feel less…cooped up.
You glanced at the windows covered in rain. It had not stopped raining the whole day, making things feel about ten times more gloomy. "Yeah, I know," you sighed.
"Where've you been?" Bob said, propping himself up more on the couch. "The team was here for a bit, Bucky asked for you."
"He did?" You tried not to let the excitement be so evident on your face. To help, you made a beeline for the kitchen. "Did he, uh, need something?"
Whether or not your efforts of casualness were decent, Bob didn't poke at it. He just answered simply. "Think he wanted to tell you something."
"Me?" You came up to the cabinets for a drink. That was up for grabs for sure. "About the team?"
With the cabinet doors blocking your face, you missed Bob shrugging from the couch.
"I don't know. I didn't really ask. Sorry!"
"It's not your fault, Bob. If it was important, he would've left me a…message…"
Bob noticed the sudden pause in your words. He tried peering as much as he could on the couch without falling but he still couldn't catch your face. "Something wrong?"
You had frozen for a moment, eyes catching the familiar green snack box. Apple-cinnamon fig bars. Your hand reached out for the box and pulled it off the shelf. "Bob…" You closed the cabinet doors, "Did you order these?"
Bob saw the box in your hands and immediately shook his head. "No, why?"
"No reason…" You set the box down on the counter and stared at it for a long while.
Bob thought you were acting weird but he didn't want to be rude and point it out. He picked up his book and pretended to read, his eyes glancing up from it every second or so to keep watching you.
You picked up the box again and turned it around. Your name was written on it in a black marker. You recognized the handwriting instantly. You had definitely not ordered them, but you had an inkling suspicion of who had.
You felt the stupid grin spreading across your face. Something warm blossomed in your chest at the same time. It was dumb as hell, feeling like this over a little box with 6 bars inside.
So what if Bucky ordered them for you?
So what if it meant that he had thought about you in the short period he had returned from his mission?
So what?
Bob, who had been staring at you from the top of his book silently, finally gathered the courage to call your name (gently). "You okay?"
With a face on fire, you met his gaze and nodded fervently. "Yup! Aha! Just — you want a snack, Bob? A drink? A—?"
"Pretty sure I probably shouldn't be drinking…" Bob reminded her awkwardly, prompting you to enter a stammering phase.
He thought you were acting seriously strange going through the kitchen trying to come up with a good snack for him. He didn't even pick up when you asked him when Bucky was supposed to get back from this new mission in such a nervous-y voice.

Other characters present/mentioned: Maria Hill, Jemma Simmons & Leo Fitz, Phil Coulson, Skye, Melissa Wallance (OC), Ji-Hoon (OCs), The Young Avengers (OCs) etc
Setting: Agent Of SHIELD season 1 Pilot
Summary: Just when Agent Amelia Parker thinks she’s off the hook, she gets sucked back in. In other words, her old boss Coulson has the idea of making a team
–
1 year, 5 weeks, 2 days and 104 minutes. That’s how long she was gone from SHIELD directly, more or less. Or it’s not like she is counting away, right? She was on a short-length mission with Ward as she stood outside the building watching his six in the helicopter as he got the job done inside. Usually though? She was stuck “babysitting” the Young Avengers, making friends with them as they called it and keeping an eye on the team.
Which usually meant hearing romance gossip, being chased down as someone broke into The Tower and or trying to chill as they all got along. It wasn’t that she didn’t like them, she did. But sometimes she felt misplaced, like the oddball in the midst of it all. It didn’t help that Hill and other agents were consistently making them look bad in front of the young heroes, who weren’t that fond of them to begin with.
And now? She was being held in a black ‘debriefing room’ as they called it, in front of Maria Hill who was dressed in her usual entire suit. She sat down in the semi-comfortable chair, with her elbows resting against the metal table wearing her usual black clothing.
“What does SHIELD stand for, Agent Parker?” Hill asked in her usual stern tone.
Amelia glanced up at her as she answered, “Uh, Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.”
“And what exactly does that mean to you?”
“Are you really asking me that? Cause we both know i’ll say one thing and you give me a remark about it.”
“Agent Parker.”
“Fine. Compassion, loyalty and heart—that’s what it means to me. Or at least, that’s what it should it be because–”
“Parker. Enough. In case you need a reminder, I'm your boss here.”
“Ehh, wrong. Technically Coulson was my boss, you just stepped in when he died…”
Amelia looked away as Hill just silently watched her. Her fingernails tapping a rhythm against the metal table, waiting for Amelia to continue her statement or not.
“And it also means we’re the people who fight.” Amelia expanded on her previous statement with a deep sigh, “SHIELD means we’re the divide between the world and the much...weirder world. Sadly, we often protect people from things they aren’t ready to hear.”
Hill nods with her eyes directly on the young agent before saying, “Correct. And I know you may not always like it—a lot of people, many not always like it, as it does cause issues. But we do it. And if something shows up, we try to get to it before someone bad does.”
Amelia just nods silently and hums, inhaling as her gaze shifted to the older women in front of her. She did wonder why Hill brought her in here, after she gave her an item she had in her pocket about the Rising Tide.
“Everything is changing, Agent Parker.” Hill said standing up, once she gave the item to a fellow agent to store safely and turned to face her, “A little while ago, people went to be thinking the craziest thing in the world was a billionaire flying around in a red and gold suit. And then aliens, along with a god, invaded New York, having to expose plenty of people…such as the mutant, gods from distant planets, a man from the 40s and other non-human heroes.”
“Mhmm.” Amelia hummed, “I know. I was there, I saw it all from the Helicarrier, Hill. Why are you telling me this? To bring back old memories? Or are you trying to stir the pot even more? If so, I'm not interested and you might as well send me back to The Tower…”
“I’m telling you this because at the moment, you’re being removed from The Young Avengers case.”
“What?”
Hill nodded, crossing her arms as she circled around the room and walked before stopping. She didn’t know what Coulson or the others had planned, hell, she didn’t exactly care. But she did know that Phil was removing one of her agents off the database and onto his area of the field instead. Meaning, she won’t have a clue what her youngest agent, Amelia, will be up to, only if she returns for certain things.
“Agent Wallance will be taking your place, effective immediately .” Hill started taking a spot in front of her, “You’re going to be removed from The Tower and working on a new area.”
“I’m sorry, what?” Amelia exclaimed, “You’re putting sweet ol’ Melissa in that place, having a more prominent role?”
“You sound so surprised. Don’t tell me, you're going to miss being surrounded by those heroes?”
“N—no. Not exactly..I mean, they grown on me…just, why?”
“For that you’ll have to ask Agent Coulson.”
“Pff, yeah, sure, his spirit is gonna appear or something?” Amelia remarked with a sarcastic joke and scoffed, “You know Coulson is gone, Hill. I vividly remember Agent Ji-Hoon pulling me away from the hallway, so i don’t see the mess that Loki made once he killed Phil..I’m clearance level 6, got the full report.”
Suddenly, a voice appeared out of the shadow as a body stepped out, with a soft smile.
“Welcome to level 7.” Said the voice, being none other than Phil Coulson, as he glanced between Amelia and Hill.
“I…” Amelia uttered, taking a sharp breath and gasped as she turned around to face him, “..how?!”
“Oh? I just walked in through the back. Sorry, that corner was really dark.”
“No, not that! How?!”
Amelia’s jaw was dropped, as she listened to how Nick Fury faked Coulson’s death to motivate the agents and they knew they couldn’t have said anything to her, or else things must’ve gone sideways. Especially with how the Young Avengers basically had someone on their team who could practically smell lies from a mile away. Meaning Rick and Rochelle. Plus, none of them were level 7, so they didn’t need to know.
She just nodded in shock, before Coulson gave her a soft smile with an open arm, pulling the young agent into a hug.
———
As they exchanged words and escorted out of the elevator, in which Ward joined in a few minutes before. According to Hill, they told him first thing in the morning and was waiting to tell Amelia about this. Coulson gave them both a recap on how he ended up with this particular position and Ward remarked how something must’ve pulled Phil back in the game, as they entered another room. A control room filled with coaches, computers and monitors on the wall that showcases The Rising Tide getting footage before SHIELD has, an unregistered gifted man with an identity unknown. In other words, a superhero.
Hill said that Coulson decided to create a mobile command unit, in which Ward and Amelia were assigned. Amelia asked if Melissa and Ji-Hoon would join, especially since Ji-Hoon has level 7 clearance. Hill said that she’ll have them join in as soon as possible. Coulson added that he wants to have the team together and working around the issue to get to this new unknown identity. Amelia nods.
“This man’s world is about to get very weird.” Coulson stated looking between the monitors and the two agents. “He’s gonna need some help.”
“That’s where I come in?” Amelia asked, pointing to herself, “Coulson, I may have experience but it doesn’t always translate well with others. They’re either extremely traumatized or very sensitive about being brought in, needing help.”
“I know that. But oftentimes it works out very well for us.”
“Okay. We’ll try.”
“I’m sorry. I was trained on day one as a specialist. I go in alone, I get it done. Defusing a bomb? I’m your guy.” Ward suddenly said with his arms crossed and then pointing to Amelia, “A welcoming committee? That’s her speed.”
“Excuse me?” Amelia remarked, crossing her arms as she looked at the taller agent, “I’m not the welcoming committee.”
“Didn’t you spend 5 months out of your year recruiting and welcoming The Young Avengers?”
“Someone had to do it.”
“You just made my point very clear. And I think Ji-Hoon would agree.”
“Not funny.”
Coulson, as always, brought them back to the main conversation as he referred his attention to Ward first. “I know it’s not what you want.” He said holding a binder as he started to open it, “Agent Hill did a very detailed assessment of your last 3 missions. Combat? Top grades. Espionage? She gave you the highest marks since Romanoff.”
Ward nods in approval and appreciation towards Hill as the brunette woman nods in return.
Coulson continued with a soft smile, “Under people’s skills, she drew a little poop, with knives sticking out of it.”
“What? It’s…” Ward said, placing a hand on Amelia’s shoulder as he looked over to see the drawing.
“That's bad, isn't it? And given your family history, I'm surprised it’s not worse. But…I think you're the guy for this. If I'm wrong, you go straight back to your bombs.”
Suddenly, Streiten entered the room, “Team’s approved. Physicals are all fine. Fitz-Simmons is not cleared for combat. Along with Agent Wallace. I’m told that won’t be an issue. Agent Ji-Hoon is in perfect health. Agent Parker is cleared for combat. Agent Ward here… he’s almost too fit.”
Ward’s gaze perked up as he walked over pointing a finger and said, “That’s an issue. That should be an issue. Maybe I can’t join the team..”
“God, are you dismissed.” Hill muttered as she was looking over the files in the binder, “Parker, follow him. You need to get packing anyway.”
“I–but...” Amelia protests with a whine.
“Go.”
She groaned and followed Ward out the door, as they entered the elevator. She leaned against the wall within the elevator as she smiled, “You’re still joining, aren’t ya?”
“I have no choice.” Ward glanced over at her once the doors closed and smiled, “Besides, someone has to keep my girl in check.”
“Aw, you just want to spend time with me.”
“I never said that.”
“But you implied it.”
“Don’t be cheeky.”
“But you love it when I am.”

Amelia arrived at The Tower to collect her things, as she went to pack her stuff into a duffle bag. She noticed Melissa Wallace, her friend, entering the room and questioning where exactly she was going. Amelia replied that she was being sent on a mission, she was given level 7 clearance today, as Melissa’s eyes widened in intrigued, and slight confusion. She knew she couldn’t say too much, so she gave Melissa what she needed to know as the brunette gasped.
“Wait, wait, wait–you got level 7 clearance for a mission with Coulson? But he’s dead.” Melissa exclaimed, pushing her glasses up, “Mia, we talked about this. Phil Coulson is dead and gone, you grieved and moved past it.”
“I’m not lying, Mel.” Amelia said with her eyes shifted back to her duffle bag.
“We all saw it happen! Hill is probably messing with you and–”
“You’re cleared for this assignment too, you know?”
“I–what?! But I'm not..huh? I’m still confused how you ended up on level 7.”
Just then, a tall asian man, none other than Ji-Hoon, appeared closing the door behind him. He was hiding from Liane and trying to get some moment of peace.
“Who’s got level 7 clearance?” He asked, as the shorter brunette looked away.
Melissa answered him with a finger, “Mia did.”
“Seriously? Right on, Mia! I’m not the only level 7 agent here anymore.”
“Am I seriously the only one who isn’t cleared for this?!”
“No. Marlene is level 5 and Nikolai is level 6.”
“I–rude! Back to the main point, Mia is now welcomed to level 7 and is leaving us for some mission with her ghost mentor.”
“For the last time, he’s somehow not dead!” Amelia yelled in annoyance and looked up from folding up a sweater.
“Yes he–” Melissa exclaimed but was cut off by their friend.
Ji-Hoon crossed his arms and hummed, “She’s not wrong, he’s not dead. I got the full report this morning.”
“Wait what?!” Melissa asked with widened eyes and blinked. “So you know about this whole thing?”
“Sorta.” Ji-Hoon replied with a shrug, “I only got to reading page two, before Liane burned a painting this morning.”
“So we’re on this assignment?”
“Yeap. According to the file, Mia is going first and once my shift is over this week, i’ll be joining them.”
“..and me?”
“You’re not cleared from combat but you are going.”
Melissa muttered, “I—Go figure.”
“Just wait until Hill bring you into a black debriefing room.” Amelia said smiling and put a hand on her shoulder, “You’ll see.”
Ji-Hoon heard Liane’s voice calling out to him and groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. He really did hope he will be called in sooner, than later.
“Elsa, where are you?!” Liane shouted down the hall, teasing him with the nickname, “Did you get moody and hide in your ice castle again?”
“One more Frozen reference out of you and I'll freeze all your Speak Now merch alive! You hear me?!” Ji-Hoon shouted as his hands curled into first before sighing, “I swear with her…”
Melissa winced and rubbed the back of her neck before asking, “Uh okay…anyways, so, who else is a part of this team that Coulson is building?”
“Uh, you, me, Ji-Hoon, Ward..” Amelia answered listing off the names she remembered from the file, “Fitz-Simmons, Melinda May is just the pilot–”
“May is just the pilot? Okay, that’s a lie.”
“Ask Coulson, not me.”
“I’ll see it when I believe it.”
With that Amelia gave her friends a smile and hugs before grabbing her duffle bag, and rushing out the door. Liane saw where she was heading and muttered, “What is she going?”
“Don’t worry about it!” Ji-Hoon shouted at the blonde.

That’s all folks! Let me know what you think? 💭
FUN FACT -> The SHIELD Academy has 3 Divisions — Operations, Sci-Tech and Communications. Sci-Tech are considered by many as the popular kids of The Academies, having underground parties in which students from different divisions come together and have fun 😉 however Ops & Sci-Tech students didn’t always like to interact very much 🤷🏻♀️ but Communication students collab with others plenty of times!!
Talk Shop Tuesday - do you think you'll be writing anything for Amelia Parker once BND comes out?
Probably! Honestly I've been meaning to write some things for her (even just snippets, I think a long multichap is unlikely) ever since NWH, but the muse never stuck around. With BND coming out, mayhaps I'll get the urge to write a few oneshots of her early days (her life with Peter and May pre-Snap, getting adopted by Otto and Rosalie, readjusting to Peter and May in her life, her turbulent relationship with Peter, how NWH resolves that, etc). I'll need to do that anyway, in order to figure out where she's at in BND and what she's up to.
I'm crossing my fingers that BND provides an avenue for Peter to intern for Otto (if MCU Otto exists in canon...if not, I've already created him anyway, as Amelia's adoptive dad) or Osborn, since I want to put Amelia in Peter's path as a scientist who he crosses paths with (and cue the angst of I-finally-reconciled-with-you-but-I-had-to-wipe-your-memories-for-your-own-safety-and-now-your-distanced-kindness-is-even-worse-than-you-hating-me!). Though if he ends up working for Norman Osborn, I may have to revise the MCU Norman I've created 😅 he's Amelia's agemate and friend right now (since NWH said that MCU Norman doesn't exist, so I created a version of him that is so young and unremarkable that Raimi Osborn wouldn't have known about him). Worst comes to worst, I'll just make him Harry instead of Norman, but we shall see what BND reveals.
But yes, I do hope that BND sparks the muse for me to finally make Amelia a lil series of her own 💞 no multichaps (maybe 2-3 chapter ones max, but nothing crazy...I've already committed to multichaps for my other big AUs lol), so don't expect those, but definitely oneshots!
