We loved reading...

...  ‘ Special Effects Guide Of Real Human Wounds and Injuries’ by Benito Garcia. Never have we at The Mill had a book so much off the shelf as this book. We have been waiting for a book like this for years and it was so worth the wait.

From start to finish it is an encyclopedia of injuries : burns, blisters, skin conditions, lacerations, lesions, broken bones...the list is endless. Anything gruesome you can ever imagine happening to the human body is in this book and in colour too!

The pictures are of fantastic quality, showing every gory detail in what feels like HD, perfect for those aspiring to make their Casualty work as accurate as possible.

What is also brilliant about this book as that is written for the Make-up Artist, not the medical student, so information is relevant and interesting, not overly complicated and taxing to read. It also has Benitos top tips on how to create some of the injuries shown in the book.

Not what you are thinking, we at The Mill aren't out in the sun sipping Gin & Tonics sadly but the day is still young. We are actually talking about using Diet Tonic water in special fx makeup. Not to wash our brushes, not to wet down our actor but to create the most realistic looking sweat effect you've seen. Simply pop in a spray bottle..maybe a mini Flairisol...and spray onto the actors face as you would any other spray sweat. The only difference being this is cheap, it is glycerine free- so no worries of reaction and no sugar means it sticks to the skin and beads but does not feel tacky to touch...so there is more than one difference but you see where we are going with this. We think it is a must have in any Fx Makeup Artists kit, so easy to access and you know it will never be discontinued like your favourite specialist sweat product. Oh and any  left over, you simply mix with some Gin on wrap and have a fabulous time.
