Today is the day the Futureshock episode of Totally Spies takes place. Wrong day of the week though. Jerry couldn’t figure out how to use google in 2005 and that’s how everything got fucked up.

The first of several official illustrations I've done for Suntup Editions new printing of William Gibson's Neuromancer. The character Molly Millions is the essential, primordial archetype for all cyberpunk heroines. I struggled with how to depict her after so many years of Ghost in the Shell, Trinity of the Matrix, like every video game ever, etc. In the end I kept it very simple or “basic”. #JackedKirby - Kafka gets “Computer Booked”!!! 💻💻💻 One of the elements that jumps out throughout Kirby’s 50+ year career is his ability to “predict the future” in his stories... basically he anticipated many technological inventions and integrated versions of them into his stories before they even exist. Like Alvin Toffler did in his classic book Future Shock, Kirby combined common sense logic and a dreamers sensibility to anticipate where certain technological innovations might go. 💻💻💻 There is no series where this is on display more than OMAC. Brother Eye, a Giant GPS satellite that is in constant wireless contact with our hero, is ripped from the 2000s even though the series came out in the early 70s! And the series, albeit a short one, packs tons of these glimpses into the future... 💻💻💻 One of the coolest times Kirby attempted to predict the future was in #Issue4 of the series (published in April 1975) when the Global Peace Agency arrested war criminal Marshal Kiorvan Kafka and begins his arraignment process. (Pic 1) 💻💻💻 OMAC and the GPA utilize a process called “computer booking”, which sees the criminal sat in a chair in front of an interactive computer screen. The prisoner is fingerprinted, read his charges and forced to make a plea... all DIGITALLY. (Pics 3/4) This kind of booking of a prisoner couldn’t be further from what was reality in 1975... it’s much closer to digitized printing and FaceTime arraignments we have today!!!! Just another example of Kirby anticipating future changes way in advance... 💻💻💻 On a side note, any chance I get to see Kirby draw a large scale close up of a face I get excited. But when he is drawing a hairy Russian war criminal... Yup, it doesn’t get better than that!
