Finding Solace in Chrome: The Profound Symbolism of Coffee in a Cyberpunk Dystopia
The Cyberpunk genre thrives on contradiction: high-tech living juxtaposed with low-life existence, gleaming skyscrapers casting shadows over grimy alleyways. Yet, few visual concepts capture this tension as perfectly as ‘A heartwarming cup of coffee’ centered within a sprawling, neon-drenched futuristic city. This visualization isn’t just about mixing genres; it’s about defining humanity’s…

Hippocampus & Fragmentation
🧠
In the distant future, human minds might be transferred to other bodies, causing fragments of forgotten memories to suddenly come back.
As the mind merges with the new body, these lost memories flicker for a moment before fading away forever

AY24.25 CTS A | Week 9 Digital Media: Documentation for Art Practice 🧠
Q1: Describe an eventful moment you have experienced in this class, bearing in mind the key ideas of the day. 🏫
The most memorable moment in class was when our group created a photo cluster reflecting our perspectives as young designers. We chose themes: Identity, Perspective, Creativity, and Future, with each of us contributing images that represented our views. The act of selecting and arranging these images together aligns with the Dropbox article which emphasizes that visual communication conveys meaning through graphics rather than text or audio, making information more efficient and accessible (Dropbox)
This exercise reminded me of Bruno Munari's philosophy in Square, Circle, Triangle, where simple shapes are used to convey deeper meanings (Munari). Similarly, our photo cluster showed how powerful visuals can be in simplifying abstract concepts like identity and creativity. For example,For Identity, we selected images that capture elements like cultural symbols and personal items, as they reflect the diverse backgrounds and unique personalities within our group. These images were chosen because they visually express our individual identities, allowing us to explore how our backgrounds shape our design perspectives. This process also made me realize how visual storytelling can bridge diverse perspectives within a team, creating a shared understanding of abstract themes
The activity also tied into our Creative Process Journal (CPJ), which focuses on documenting the creative journey, not just the final outcomes. The CPJ helps track our evolving ideas and artistic progress, a theme reinforced by Week 9’s focus on Digital Media: Documentation for Art Practice. Thorough documentation preserves design decisions and facilitates communication with stakeholders, enabling designers to reflect on their progress, learn from mistakes, and refine their work over time (McKinnon; Munari). This understanding underscores the importance of documenting our progress as designers and reflecting on my development over time.
Q2: What other categories would you have personally included for the exercise? Include new images to clarify your vision.
I would add Resilience and innovation,Honeybees symbolize resilience through their adaptability and teamwork. As a young designer resilience is importance by allowing creative expression, even during difficult times (What Animal Represents Resilience?)
Innovation would reflect pushing boundaries as designers, using images of futuristic technology or experimental architecture. As“Design innovation expands creative possibilities, fostering new approaches (What Is Design Innovation?).
