Part 2 - AO3
"You stupid.. STUPID, purple idiot! Do you have any idea what you've done! Why did you take the blow? Why..." You quietly sobbed as you cradled a wounded Donatello who was slowly fading away. You two were silently sitting in a covered spot away from the krang as you dragged Donnie's body for cover.
This was so bad. You couldn't do anything. You weren't like Leo, nor Donnie or anyone else. At this point you felt useless as you tried to stop the blood from leaking out of him. His turtle shell protector long gone to show his injured shell. His goggles shattered and his clothes torn in small cuts.
"You're gonna be okay, we'll get you out of here and get you treated. Please stay with me Dee.."
You were panicking, trying to figure out where to go or what to do. Until Donnie raised his three finger hand to lay on yours that was pressing down on his wound. He lets out a little wheeze, trying to talk. Trying to say something to let you know that everything was going to be okay.. that he was going to be finally be at peace.
"It's going to be okay.."
"No! It's not.. you're going to die and I can't do anything to help you!" You sobbed. "I'll figure something out, just please.." You looked around, seeing if anything around you could help but all you could see was broken building parts and dust..
Your eyes start to swell with tears, Donnie's breathing started to become shallow. His hand that laid up on yours reached to turn your head to him. His soft gentle hand cupping your cheeks as tears spilled down your cheeks. Your hand immediately reaching to his.
"I love you... so much ____. I always have.."
And that was his last words until he finally fell into a deep sleep.. your hand clenched around his limp and weak hand, making sure it wasn't going to leave your wet cheek. You sobbed and sobbed.
Leaning your body over his as you cried into his body. Saying that you were sorry that you couldn't do anything and that you didn't protect him like you promised.
Suddenly a loud roar tore into the air, your cover now figured out but you couldn't care less. Even if the Krang found you, you could meet Donnie once again.
...
Darkness swallowed you whole.
The only feeling you felt was the coldness as you finally accepted your fate. A chill crept through your body, causing you to shiver only slightly.
Then suddenly.. warmth. A gentle touch brushed against your cheek. It was soft and comforting. Like a distant memory you thought you lost forever.
The coldness finally turned into warmth.
Your eyes then snapped open. You jolted upright with a gasp, sweat clinging to your forehead as your chest rose and fell in uneven breaths. For a few silent seconds, you tried to figure out your whereabouts.
This wasn't where you had been before you last checked.
Usually there would be terrified screams echoing, voices whispering on how to survive but surprisingly it was quiet, the gentle hum of a machine vibrating nearby.
You were just outside, covered in broken part of the falling building and you were suddenly laying on a bed.
Were you finally dead? Was this a dream?
Before you could gather your thoughts, a voice spoke nearby.
"Dear?"
Your breath caught in your throat. No. That voice… You knew that voice. A familiar voice that you swore you would never hear again. Slowly and almost afraid to look, you turned toward the source of the sound.
Your eyes widened at the sudden figure who looked at you with a raised drawn on eyebrow.. it was him.
Donnie was right in front of you.. but he.. he was just...
You tried to reach out to him only to stop in your tracks. "Nah uh, no moving. Stay where you are so I can check over you." He said as a light hover over his wrist as he started tapping away in the air. Right, it was his power or somewhat.
But you couldn't help but reach out again.
"You know you shouldn't be overworking yourself to the extent of making yourself pass out, I have to occasionally carry you back to my bed to let you get some proper rest. Typically saying that I don't want you becoming like a version of me."
"Donnie..."
"Hold still for me, I need to scan you to make sure you don't have any..."
Your hand now held his, he felt solid, real even. You took a deep breath in as you felt his hand twitch at the sudden touch.
"Injuries.." He finished, his eyes wandering down at your hand which shook in his. To make things worse, your eyes start to swell up with fresh tears as you realized that Donnie was in front of you. But how? Could it be...
"____?"
"You're.... real..." You softly whispered under your breath that made Donnie freeze in his tracks, he blinked a couple of times to try and connect on what you were trying to imply.
"You're... here... right in front of me..." You then locked eyes with his which had concern written all over, his drawn on eyebrows furrowing as you exhaled your held breath. "You're real... aren't you?"
That question only made Donnie hitch his breath. Of course he was real. Where else would he be. He lets out a tired sigh, his hand slipping away from yours to sit next to you, the bed dipping under his weight as he tries to speak, trying to help you calm down. "Yes, I'm real.. alive even."
Donnie wasn't technically good at speaking or helping people with emotions or feelings but at least he was trying his best to keep the conversation going. He knows if he distracts you, you are sure to forget what you were crying about. "You must've had a troubling nightmare?" He questions.
Was it a nightmare? But it felt so real.. you were sure that you were about to be killed by the Krang.
"But.. the Krang.. you.." You tried to speak until Donnie hums. "Krang are gone, there is no more Krang, remember? You helped me and my bros trapped them away from our universe.. I uh...hmm." Donnie could see the distance in your eyes, letting out a sigh once again then he spoke "C'mere."
You turned to see his arms wide open for you. Immediately charging into his arms as you both fell onto the bed. Donnie letting out a "oof" as you sobbed into his arms.
He swallowed, getting more concerned, then hesitantly placing a hand on your back, and the other petting your head. "Let it out.."
His hand continued his slow and reassuring pats on your head, slowly combing through your hair. The familiar motion that should comfort you.
Instead it made it worse. Sobbing harder because in that dream.. no... it wasn't a dream, you knew it wasn't a dream since you could remember every single small detail.
You remembered the hand that held yours as it went limp into your reach.
Donnie then stiffened as he felt you reached form under his purple hoodie to his shell. No scars that he usually has..
Your voice then called out in a weak and tired tone. "Don't leave me.."
The room only fell silent for a few seconds like Donnie was trying to think on what to say after that. "...I'm not going anywhere."
Slowly but surely your sobs turned into little hiccups and sniffles, still holding a tight clutch onto Donnie's purple hoodie. The comforting circling motion on your back relaxed you.
His chin now rests on your head as you start to calm down. Your breathing slowly returning to normal breathing.
"You okay now?"
You let out a tired hum, not even being bother to do anything at this very moment. You just wanted to feel Donnie. Feel him and make sure he was alive right in front of you, feeling like if you were to let go.. he would fade away and you'll wake up alone..
"Good, The others will be glad to hear that you're okay." The others?
"They're alive too?" You suddenly jolted up in surprise. Donnie hummed. "Of course they are, every one is alive and well. Now come on." Donnie start to get up, your hand still intertwined with his as he gave you a gentle squeeze.
Making your way out of his room, you could hear the cheerful voices from nearby. You felt like your eyes were playing tricks on you.. there they were, standing right in front of you.
Leo.
Raph.
Mikey.
April.
Casey even.
Heck even Splinter was standing nearby with his original smile on his face.
"____!"
Mikey's figure suddenly jumped at you, instantly wrapping his arms around you into a tight hug. You freeze, trying to process but relaxed and hugged him back.
Raph and Leo soon came over. "Glad to see you back on your feet, hermosa. Don-tron was quite worried about his girlfriend fainting on him." Leo teased, smirking as he leaned into Donnie's space. Donnie's eye twitched and pushed Leo away. "Quit it Nardo."
You then turned your attention to a worried looking Raph. "Raph was worried, you've been working yourself to death."
"I'm okay now Raph."
You smiled, looking around to see everyone alive..
But you couldn't help but wonder...
How were you alive?

*When Sora opens his eyes, he's somewhere he doesn't recognize. That's somewhat normal, but the fact that he's on the ground is not.
*He gets up with a soft groan, looking around the area and spotting a castle and a town. Well, that's a good a place as any, he supposes.
*His legs hurt again, but he continues anyway. Pain is natural for him by now, but after Twig healed his body he hasn't had much. So this level -- that's easy to ignore.
*He enters the town, looking around but staying quiet for once. He has to trust that the Heartless either haven't or won't attack.
*He only realizes that maybe the townspeople aren't friendly, when he's stopped by guards. Harshly.
Oh- uhm- wait, I-
@keyblade-wielder-sora
*The town you find yourself in is small but has a homely atmosphere. There are children playing and a small fountain in the middle of the town Square.*
*That is until you are spotted. People move back from you. Unsure what to make of you...*
HEY!
DONT MOVE!
*By the time you register whos speaking to you you feel a spearhead near your throat. And a guardsman in a yellow uniform looking down at you.*
Travel using those means is strictly forbidden on the orders of King Sky and Queen Zelda.
*King sky? You know that name...*

*You feel a second guard grab your shoulder harshly and begin to lead you forward. Towards the castle.*

One of the many first mornings by his side (Felix/Oswald)

Oswald, like everyone else, isn't good at many things, and he has flaws he needs to work on to improve. For example, his lack of patience and bad attitude (one attitude almost cost him dearly during his youth).
He is someone who is aware that he is imperfect.
But he believes he's wonderfully imperfect, accepting the logic Felix once told him: that every being is wonderful in its imperfection, even if it's incomprehensible.
But there's one thing no one can deny him: he's handsome.
However, one of his many flaws (and one that earned him a few scoldings from Tens and Mickey) is that he's not a morning person. And that's something he's had to deal with ever since he decided to leave the circus. Now he no longer has Mickey or Donald to wake him up, and his children's daily routine is now entirely his responsibility. The other members of the circus are no longer there to help him, and it would be unfair to shift all that burden onto Felix or his children. The employees have already told him it's not a problem. But he has to do it anyway. Oswald has to be responsible for his decisions and their consequences; this is a step toward the future.
As it happens, he woke up early, and now he doesn't know which deity or cosmic being to thank for this opportunity he was given the moment he opened his eyes. He has the best image he could wish for and an unparalleled moment.
The one and only Felix the Cat.
Formerly his friend.
Now being... well, Oswald doesn't know for sure.
The cat is fast asleep beside him, so peaceful, his presence warm, his body face down. Oswald notices that the cat has stolen the entire sheet for himself; now he knows where some of the cold that woke him came from. This shameless cat let him suffer while he, for his part, is comfortably curled up like a burrito in the sheets as if they were armor against the cold, only his head peeking out. With the cold seeping into the bedroom, he understands why Felix had insisted the night before, before going to bed, that he light the fireplace in the room.
Perhaps he's still sleepy, but Felix seems to have bigger ears, maybe partly because he can only see his head sticking out from under the blanket.
The adventurer is drooling on the pillow and can hear a low snore mixed with a purr that tugs at his heartstrings.
Oswald is in a drowsy internal conflict. He wants to kiss him, but at the same time, he doesn't want to wake him.
Felix looks sexy, funny, and adorable.
He looks so silly cute like that; relaxed, tousled, in that pose where he's hugging the pillow he uses to rest his head, drooling, those whiskers twitching every few seconds.
He loves him so much it hurts.
May the Cosmos bless Felix's parents for bringing him into the world.
This image makes Oswald greedy. He wants to keep waking up like this, to enjoy the pleasures of sleeping next to this cat.
Because no one can sleep next to Felix and say that the beautiful view is not a luxury.
A few rays of sunlight peeking through the curtain of one of the windows are enough to make him realize that Felix will wake up soon. And that he stayed longer than he should have.
The rabbit gets up, resolving that it's a waste to try to sleep any longer, and would even be a failure since Oswald is sleeping next to a diligent fellow with a morning routine. He gets up carefully and goes to the bathroom in the room.
His bedroom doesn't have a bathroom, but as far as he knows, almost all the bedrooms in the house don't.
That's another of the wonderful things he's enjoying today thanks to his hasty decision last night.
While showering, Oswald remembers how he ended up sleeping next to the cat.
Last night they were debating which book Felix was going to lend him to read to the bunnies tomorrow night before they went to bed.
It was... curious (not to say strange)... the cat's choice.
He had chosen "The Book of Three" by Lloyd Alexander, the first book in the "Chronicles of Prydain" series. The adventurer decided to acquire the complete saga after reading an excerpt from one of the books and being captivated, and he happily achieved his goal. Oswald read the first book and had to admit it was very good; in fact, he would like to read the other books in the saga, but he didn't consider the content suitable for his children. Oswald knew what he had and had arguments to justify his decision.
Felix had argued that it was a good book that could suit most children's tastes, but he agreed that if Oswald decided not to accept it, so be it.
It was during this back-and-forth between them about the cat's books that much of the time passed, until midnight arrived. And then Felix made the proposal.
"Hey, Os. Why don't you stay the night?"
"What?"
The rabbit was speechless; he couldn't think of anything that would allow him to give a clever response to that proposition. He stood there, speechless, staring at Felix.
In the present, Oswald is meticulously rubbing shampoo into his fur, as if that could somehow erase the embarrassment he now feels for his foolish reaction.
But at that moment, Felix smiled and began combing his own tail, with an attitude as relaxed as if he were solving the newspaper's crossword puzzle (which he's much better at than Oswald).
"It's late, and we're already something, aren't we?… um, so… I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea." Felix unconsciously gave him that powerful look, the one that makes him unable to resist the risk this represents, like every affectionate suggestion the cat has made since they started this relationship. "You can leave early in the morning, before the children wake up."
When he came to his senses, he almost refused the unexpected proposition. It was possible that they were not caught by the children, but by the employees. However, Oswald couldn't say anything to refuse when it was obvious that Felix was trying to hide his enthusiasm.
Those bright eyes and that mischievous smile. A radiant aura.
Felix was excited.
And who was Oswald to deny Felix something so simple?
"Okay. Let's do it."
"Really?" Felix looked at him in surprise.
"Don't think about it too much or I'll leave, Feels," Oswald joked awkwardly with a smile, watching the cat's reaction.
At that moment, Felix's happiness could have lit up the entire block.
Then they turned off the lights and settled into bed. They both acted awkwardly because of how strange it felt; it was the first time they'd shared a bed together. Felix's courage and excitement had diminished; now he was nervous about moving and taking up space, and Oswald was trying to calm him down and get him to come closer to him. The light that filtered through the windows helped them to see each other comfortably, and Oswald was grateful for that, as he could see Felix's dilated pupils and flushed cheeks. But after a while of strange silence, they began to talk in whispers. It was during their conversation that Felix asked if he could hug him, and he agreed. This intimate closeness made Oswald feel strange, but it was good. Feeling as natural as the adventurer, he snuggled against his body, and after a few seconds of continuing to talk, he fell asleep.
Using Oswald's shoulder to rest his head. As if that were his favorite place.
Yes. Oswald ended up sleeping late, and in true ninja style, he'll have to get out of there and back to his room without getting caught.
After getting out of the shower, he finds the magic bag on top of the toilet tank, and from inside it emerges a velvet tongue with some clothes that the rabbit thinks are his. Oswald is pretty sure he didn't hear the door open, but he consciously decides to ignore that detail, so he thanks it and gets dressed.
When Oswald returns to the bedroom, with the magic bag following him like a happy puppy, he sees a strange morning wonder.
The burrito on the bed is no longer a burrito; now it's a tangled mess of blankets while a cat lies on its back staring at the ceiling. There's no drool either, but it's still so sensually disheveled.
Just Felix being unconsciously sexy.
The cat twitches one of its ears in his direction and turns to look at him, its eyelids drooping with sleepiness.
Felix first looks at him with confusion, but then his eyes sparkle with playful joy and his beautiful smile blossoms.
"Good morning, baby." The adventurer extends a hand in her direction and moves his fingers in a beckoning gesture.
He doesn't know if it's the excitement of the beginning of this still-undefined relationship, but Oswald loves and respects him as much as Felix himself has shown him. Now he knows and understands what love means to the cat, glimpsing a profound understanding of wanting something beyond the basics. Felix truly loves like few others.
And he wants to follow their example.
He wants to love Felix.
Oswald feels as if the risk he dares to take this morning doesn't matter.
"In the near future, this will be just one of many mornings by your side," Oswald thinks before sitting up in bed and leaning down to gently kiss the kitten, aware of how painful and wonderful it is to love him and be loved by him, but having to accept a reality he understood late; death is what gives meaning to life, since moments do not repeat themselves and beauty changes, giving a deeper meaning to the fact of existing, understanding that we must enjoy life since we have a limited life alongside those who love us.
Random fact:
Lloyd Alexander's "Book of Three" is a real-life book that was published in 1964.
There is a small reference to "I Love You So Much It Hurts" a classic country song, which was written and recorded by Floyd Tillman in 1948.
Personally, I feel this ended up being unnecessarily long, although I think if I had extended it a bit more, it could have had a better ending. But I hope it wasn't too bad. If someone enjoyed it, then I'm satisfied.
