The scene where Carmela finds Furio's house empty and knows she's never going to see him again really fucked me up the first time I saw it.... It's about that last tiny point of light in her life disappearing, but it's also about Meadow becoming an adult who doesn't need her anymore, it's about Tony no longer being able to see her through the image of her that he's created, it's about the trappings of the life she has chosen driving away every single thing that's pure and good, most of all it's about her life becoming completely empty and meaningless and knowing there will be no escape from it. As the camera slowly pulls back to reveal what Carmela is seeing through the window, we know she's finally seeing her life with clarity. And it's an empty house.
