It's a quote I read several years ago that said being a dad is the toughest job that you will ever love. Man if they weren't telling the truth with that one. The only job that you never clock out. I guess that's why some men do clock out and go home - because it's too hard for them. I will never understand how a man can have a child and then never see them anymore. Thank God that I've always had examples of REAL men in my life. You have your easy days but more times than not you will be faced with challenges (ESPECIALLY as they get older). The biggest lessons that I've learned is: -Never stop learning -Always do your absolute best -Never give up -Always take care of yourself first (If you let your children suck the life out of you, you can't be there for them anyway) -You don't have to have money to spend time -Smile and laugh as much as possible -Lead with love -Last but not least (like everything else) LOVE the process. There are always movies and shows playing in my head so that's how I relate things. In American Wedding Michelle was talking to Jim's dad and he said I think they call it making love because you have to make love work with all the things that you do. 'Do' is the key word. Not the things that you say (although it's important to speak good things). Love is a verb. If you want success in anything you have to put the work in. Lessons that I've learned from my parents, experiences, especially from OGs (50 - 60 years married): . - Communication: Talk about everything don't go to bed upset and be honest. - They have to be your best friend. - Constantly date (Doesn't necessary take money.) - Every relationship is different. There are best practices but family and friends can't resolve problems that they didn't create. - There has to be some type of faith to get through the rough times. - Last but not least that person should be your upgrade.
