I imagine that your first encounter with Fumikage would be a total meet-cute <3
Youâre feeling extra worn out today after a full day packed with chores and responsibilities⊠yes, youâve been through worse days, but this one is enough to have you on the verge of overstimulation.
Walking downtown, only thing on your mind is coming home, taking off your heavy clothes, sloppily drinking up a comically large amount of water and ultimately throwing yourself onto the bed.
Step by step, you notice a neat, neon sign among the crowd of other local signboards: looking through the display window, your eyes are met with a variety of second hand little goods and trinkets.
Thereâs shelves hoarded with books, newspapers, magazines, small alleys with music: CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, cassettes as well as many other gadgets around the shop - for example, an impressive set of vintage, dusty pro hero figurines, a few of them with missing limbs - some guy of middle height and with green, unkempt hair approaching them with wide eyes at the very moment.
Contemplating for a moment, you finally decide to give the store a try: you still have some time until your bus arrives, you might as well engage in some pleasure instead of looking miserable at the bus-stop. And⊠after all that youâve been through today⊠you deserve a little treat, right?
Wind blows at your sweaty back giving you an uncomfortable, freezing feeling while you take small steps towards the door handle. You push it and immediately find yourself transported to a whole new world â as if the delicate doorbell was hypnotizing you, guiding you through undiscovered dimensions.
Your nostrils quickly absorb the captivating scent of dust and old print as you walk through a cherry-coloured carpet that clearly hasnât been washed in some time. You take a short walk through one of the book aisles, guiding your hand through leather book bindings, looking up you notice a few wind chimes hanging on the ceiling, making soft noises. Truly, one of a kind sensoric catharsis.
The books are sorted quite lazily. Some few years old crossword collections here and there intertwined with colouring books for children, even older newspapers with faded text on them, you felt like you entered a forgotten archive, hell, thereâs definitely some out of print rarities here. Making up your mind, you pick up a book of your choice and proceed forward.
Next up: music. The shopâs own collection is exactly what youâd expect from a second-hand: renaissance motets, the golden age of baroque, nursery rhymes, ânow, thatâs what i call music! 2017â, some pop divas, e.g. Mariah Carey. A few jewel cases have cracks on them - youâre curious if perhaps the disc rot got into any, meanwhile some vinyl album covers have obtained the imprint that the vinyl itself has left over time. You could easily tell all the equipment in here has been well loved and thoroughly used.
While you should, as of now, probably be making your way towards said bus-stop, you wanted to explore a little more, perhaps blind buying music might do the trick for some dopamine, no? You head towards the alley at the very top right corner of the place, following music sections such as: âBESTSELLER!â or âfor childrenâ.
Making your way, you stand next to two huge shelves from both sides, each towering over you. While about to give yourself into the feeling and dive in, you notice a man in what seems to be a school uniform, crouching and deep in thought, analyzing the back of a CD tracklist.
With his head covered in ink-black feathers, a blood-red choker and an alluring, pointed beak, he looked stunningly majestic yet intimidating. There was a certain aura of mystery to the boy. Your body and soul affected by the broodyâs man aura, absorbing the flowery-alcoholic perfume scent of his, your heart emits a pang of nervousness.
Youâve always felt connected with book and record purchasing, or just browsing and window shopping in general, especially in such intimate spots. itâs quite like a holy ritualistic space which makes you forget of your surroundings and worries when you enter the world of tempting prose and liberated sound - it felt almost wrong to have even a single person interrupt, especially someone looking so⊠threatening.
Of course, itâs a public space, for everyone. You canât just kick someone out. You put your anxiety aside and firmly crouch down to get a better look at the CDs at the bottom. You start your journey on the opposite to Him, but also maybe not completely on the very edge of the shelf, maybe a few centimeters to the right, that way so He doesnât think youâre- Gods, you are definitely overanalyzing this.
You find yourself awkwardly crouching and judging the music by itâs covers. You stare at a few eye candy pictures and eventually pull out a few of the albums and give yourself up to the ecstasy. You got so invested in searching for artists you recognize or album covers that charm you that you didnât even realize the broody guy put his CD back and proceeded to browse further towards you.
Squatting down at approximately the middle of the shelve, you didnât even notice this guy has been leaning closer and closer, and frankly speaking, he wasnât aware either. Only at one point you realize somethingâ
Youâre reaching out for a CD as your hand is met with a foreign, warm texture: certainly not the usual plastic or cardboard material. You are pulled out of trance and accidentaly drop the cd you were picking up from sheer shock, the fallen plastic case making a thump sound, and quickly realize whatâs going on. Looking up sheepishly, youâre met with a pair of deep amber-red eyes. World stop.
Paralyzed by embarassment you only let out an anxious sigh. Heâs silent. Looking down to avoid his gaze youâre reminded of the ill fated CD - you reach out to pick it up - only to touch his hand yet again as you, once again, get the same idea.
Oh, well.
You smile awkwardly as you let him take the reign of the album. He inspects if there are any cracks on the jewel case, holding it with his calloused hand, to your shared relief not.
âP-pardonne-moi⊠I should have been more considerate of mine surrounding. Please do forgive me my lack of self awareness. It seems we both fancy the same record?â
For a voice so deep he still had a very calm tone and eloquent although not pretentious but genuine feeling vocabulary, yet seemed a little nervous at the beginning of his delivery - just to regain a very stoic composure at itâs end.
Thankfully, he broke the ice for you with this question, making you ease up a little as well as join the conversation. You participate in a very heartfelt discussion about music and literature which turns out both of you share interest in, mentioning the thin book youâre considering to buy and also him pulling out the CD heâs looking forward to purchase out of his school bag.
You spend the next five minutes simply talking, bonding over your hobbies. He spoke of his personal favourite bands, his own guitar, self penned poetry and reveals he even played a few gigs in his school band. He had a very authentic cool demeanor, which he however lost once talking about his field of interests - now fidgeting a little with his loosened tie and putting his hand behind his head.
Feeling very invested in the bird boyâs shenanigans you suddenly get a quite risky idea. To tell the truth, despite knowing him for a very short amount of time youâd be lying if you said you donât find him charming in his own way and handsome. Wouldnât it be nice if you perhapsâŠ?
You look down at the book youâre unnecessarily gripping with both of your hands in front of you, your cheeks feeling warmer once again. The conversation turning slightly one-sided now, as the only reaction heâs getting out of you are currently just nods of agreement. Too focused on story dumping about himself, the heteromorph only notices youâre not answering after a little while and suddenly starts feeling embarassed by dozing off. Heâs truly grateful youâre not able to spot his own tomato blush behind the feathers.
âMy sincere apologies, I⊠I got a little too ahead of myself. Itâs just that this enthusiasm of yours ignited me.â He studies your face. âHave I overwhelmed you? Once again, I truly apolo-â You interrupt him in the middle of his speech, signalizing for him to quit apologizing and reassuring him with a sign of your hand. If HE is ignited, then you must have completely burned down - the way how your heart feels like itâs got a massive boulder on it and how your stomach aches terribly. Now or never.
âSee, I was just wondering,â you gulp and look him straight in the eyes, feeling like heâs devouring you with them. âWeâve had a really fun talk! And i know this is out of the blue butttâŠâ you emphasize on the last word with your dry voice as you offer him the book you were supposed to buy with your shaky hands. âWouldnât it be cool if⊠um, we exchanged? Like, Iâll listen to your CD and youâll read my book? We could have something to talk about⊠of course, no pressure!â You feel like youâre about to collapse. Your legs shaking like possesed. He hums, taking the book in his hand. He felt positively surprised at the offer and himself begins to feel warm inside at the thought of that idea. Scanning the book from top to bottom, he gives you a soft nod.
âThat is a marvelous idea, yes, I would very much like to participate in this little trade. What deadline suits you best? Next week, perhaps?â
Jackpot. While you still have tachycardia-qualifying heartbeat, you canât help but just feel proud. It pays off to be brave sometimes. You give him a more energetic nod contrary to your previous slow movements and make a âMhm!â sound. Itâs hard to read him by the stiffness of his body language but you can nearly swear that you saw him gently smiling for a split second.
The sharp-eyed man almost hands you the CD of his choice until he suddenly retrieves it, staring at his own reflection in the plastic case. âWait a moment, I shall write this down for you.â he spoke as he approached a table with several books stacked onto it and pulled out his little notebook and a fountain pen out of his pocket, because itâs completely normal to have a fountain pen in your handsight at all times in his world. He cautiously rips one of the decorative pages and leans his torso towards the furniture to write more precisely. You approach him as heâs scribbling something at the bottom of the paper wanting to take a peek out of curiosity and confusion, however once he heard you approaching he quickly folded the note and put it inside the CDâs jewel case. He hands it to you.
With the exchange now being done it felt like youâve now ran out of topics to talk about. There was now a sudden profound silence between you, but thankfully - or not - you remembered you have a bus to catch. You felt relieved but also dissappointed. Relieved because you get to avoid the somewhat awkward small talk, dissappointed because you want more of Him. You want to get to know him better. Just be near him.
You bid a sweet goodbye, to which he replies with a friendly salute with his hand and utters a simple âFarewell.â It would feel weird if anyone tried to say bye to you in such a dramatic over the top way, but in this case it made you feel even more drawn to the mysterious persona. Until we meet again, hopefullyâŠ
He observes you as long as youâre in his eyesight, swiftly dissappearing behind the wooden shelves. Walking towards the check-out, first thing getting your attention is the passive-aggressive âONLY CASHâ sign, you look at the wall composed of ceramic mosaic on top and floor tiles at the bottom part behind it. Like many other things in this place it probably hasnât been cleaned in a questionable amount of time - judging by how all tiles have different hues of dirty white. It kind off adds more charm to the place if anything.
You nonchalantly (or so you think) approach the vintage cash register. Itâs so old and outdated but itâs probably on purpose, you assume - and hope. You greet the casheer in a friendly manner, much to her dismay. She was of small height, however for the lack of it her character was making it up; sheâs got that kind of a mean face that would usually make you want to leave and apologize for existing, but not today. There was just a bunch of people in the store at the moment and if you crossed their path, they would easily see youâre bursting with excitement - including her. Your positivity made her bitter, but you didnât bother enough to even notice, you just slide the music onto the desk and let her do the job.
The worker is opening the CD jewel case with the intentions of scratching out the price sticker inside to reuse it later when she notices a little piece of a red tinted paper decorated with cute apples on it. She takes it into her hand and sees a short line of text written in deep blue ink cursive, looking very formal and serious compared to the goofy page.
Eyes wide open for a quick moment, contrasting with her permanent annoyed face expression she had previously - but you didnât notice, for what she was grateful. You were too occupied enthusiastically looking around the shop, once left, once right, admiring the decorations inside and staring at the people on the street, all while smiling, a lot, probably looking quite unwell. What a weirdo, she probably thought, but proceeded with her task and gave you the CD as soon as you paid the price, nearly dashing out of the store - because you should be catching the bus as of now, but also because of Him.
The heteromorph in the meantime was left completely smitten, speechless after the brief exchange. His eyes staring intensively once at the book and once towards a little glimpse of you by the checkout through the shelves. He was only pulled out of his daydream once he felt someone tapping on his shoulder - it was the greenhead you took notice of while watching through the display window. He jumped a little from the unexpected touch realizing itâs just his companion.
âWho was that, your friend, Fumikage⊠Fumikage?â He asked bluntly seeing heâs clearly not fully âpresentâ in the moment. He previously saw you strike up a conversation with him. He didnât mind it at all - he figured out heâll give the both of you some privacy to not make things awkward, and that turn of events bought him more time to gush over the marvelous designs of the pro-hero figurines anyway.
A little âdongâ sound originated from the threshold ringbell, singnalling that a customer has either entered or left the very moment the dark feathered man answered. âNo⊠no. It was an angel, an angel from above, blessing my mortal world with itâs otherwordly presence.â He exclamated dramatically, awakening a feeling of awkwardness between them. âOh, alright⊠cool!â he replied dryly, probably feeling not well-read enough to deal with his friends antics today.
It was at this moment when between the two boys an unspecified shape of translucent, purple-ish energy similiar to a flame manifested itself into existence. Itâs gifted with an appearence resembling itâs source - although still very much itâs own thing. It spoke just as fast as it appeared, actually to the shock of none. It attached itself on the greenheadâs hair, making it resemble a birdâs nest and let out a scream on a single breath. âFUMIKAGEâS RIZZING âEM UP!!â Itâs lack of social awareness put the friends in an awkward situation, quickly shushing their sudden comrade. âDark Shadow, be silent!â Said the bird in a very raspy and authoritative tone.
Pulling the doors, you are instantly welcomed back by the warm sunshine nuzzling your face. Itâs afternoon, the sunrays reach every corner of the street. You look up at the sky which took the hue of citruses, still deep in your thoughts replaying the strange encounter. Your consciousness only comes back once alerted by a loud screech coming out of the store - however you didnât put much thought into it and finally left for the bus stop.
CD in your left hand, you didnât want to hide it, no. You want and probably will relive this memory a thousand times this week. You arrive at your destination and sit on a wooden bench. There was still some time left, and thatâs when you finally took a better look at the album out of boredom - some scratches here and there but it was mainly kept intact, well, at least for such a small price that is. You open the case and as soon as you do it a small, folded paper falls out of it next to your shoe. Fortunately, there was no wind at the moment. Itâs probably some old dessert recipe or a random dedication from the previous owner, oh well. You were able to quickly pick it up while still sitting. You considered just throwing it away, but curiosity got the best of you. You unfold it and to your shock you are greeted with a short message⊠for you?
â03.09 A.D 20XX, Awaiting our reunion. T.F.â
Itâs only a little note, but oh heavens. Your posture straightens up instantly and you bring the paper to your chest, your dramatic heartbeat resuming. In retrospective it was quite funny, really. Very serious cursive writing and a dramatic latin phrase on top of that. All this on a decorative paper with silly apple drawings. One of those cases where you really donât want to be smiling but your body refuses to listen. Youâve got the biggest smile in the city today. You fell like crazy for a boy whoâs name you only know the initials of.

heâs so fucking stupid
Wow posting your stuff online is such a humiliation ritual. @/vipvesper i hope you enjoyed my slop a little⊠definitely not as good as other mha writers out there but itâs honest work.
