A heavy, comfortable silence filled the interior of the car, broken only by the soft, rhythmic hum of the engine idling. Hyunjin leaned back against the leather seat, his fingers tapping a restless beat against the steering wheel. It had been almost a month. A whole, agonizing month since the Bali wedding.
To anyone else, their interaction there might have seemed brief, a fleeting moment amidst a high-profile celebration. But Hyunjin hadn’t been able to take his eyes off Lisa from the second she walked into the dancefloor. He was wired that way, unfortunately or fortunately; he developed swift, intense obsessions over people who caught his attention. Right now, she was his singular focus. How could she not be? She was effortlessly beautiful, striking, and possessed a magnetic kind of allure that had completely derailed his train of thought for weeks. He would never admit it aloud, but the pages of his sketchbook were currently filled with her likeness. Every time he found himself bored or drifting, his charcoal found its way back to the slope of her shoulder, the sharp line of her jaw, the way her eyes crinkled when she laughed. It was excessive, maybe even a little borderline, but that was just how he operated. He loved beautiful things, and right now, she was the epitome of it.
Because he absolutely loathed waiting around for fate to do the heavy lifting, he had finally taken the leap and asked her to hang out. And because patience wasn't his strongest suit, it had to be tonight. When she actually agreed, a thrill of genuine satisfaction had cut through his usual cool exterior. Now, he was here. He put the car in park, the headlights cutting through the dim evening light right outside her place. Picking up his phone, he kept the message short and entirely to the point.
Hyunjin: i'm outside
