Indulge in the creamy goodness of homemade vanilla bean frozen custard, made with fresh egg yolks, heavy cream, and real vanilla bean. This classic frozen treat is rich, smooth, and bursting with vanilla flavor.
Ingredients: 4 egg yolks. 1/2 cup granulated sugar. 2 cups heavy cream. 1 cup whole milk. 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
Instructions: In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well combined. Add heavy cream, whole milk, and scraped vanilla bean or vanilla extract to the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 10-15 minutes. Do not let it boil. Remove from heat and strain the custard through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl. Cover and chill the custard in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight. Pour the chilled custard into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 25-30 minutes. Transfer the churned custard to a freezer-safe container, cover, and freeze for an additional 2-3 hours until firm. Serve the vanilla bean frozen custard scooped into bowls or cones. Enjoy!
