Inheritance is the main writing project I've been working on!! It's a series of novels, An Unwanted Inheritance is the first one and the one I talk about the most.
The main plotline is the main character Armani, an autistic boy with PTSD-induced amnesia, loses his mom. A year later, a stranger shows up in his hometown whom he's sure is affiliated with her disappearance.
During all this, he's going to a school which specializes in Faren practices (magic), and encounters all the other shenanigans that come with going to a new school and not q u i t e knowing how to socialize normally.
Almost all the characters are queer, nd, disabled, poc, or multiple at once.
The story focuses on themes of imperialism, alternate history, and personal identity, mainly by proxy through the Fae.
The magic system is... accidentally very complex! Essentially, Faren is a substance that exists in all things, and can be harnessed to make neat things happen! Humans have some of it in their body, but the Fae are entirely made of it.

At the middle of the story, Armani finds out that one of his teachers- named Zeyatu The Demon King at the Academy is the same stranger who disappeared his mom. Xe's working with the Emperor to get back the Imperial Inheritance, a hereditary power that allows you to absorb other people's Faren when they die. Armani is the son of the Emperor, and his mom worked with Zeyatu to leave the Emperor and live a normal life away from his abusive, transphobic, racist nonsense.
It's also stated that Zeyatu and the Emperor are having an affair, and that the Emperor is a closeted gay man. He specifically married Armani's mother because she's trans, and "sort of a man, but enough that it doesn't count."
