A note on the “was what Loghain did wrong” debate
that I’ve always kind of thought about - when you wake up in Flemeth’s hut after she rescues you from the Tower of Ishal and Morrigan is filling you in on the details, even Morrigan, queen of cold pragmatism, speaks in a way that condemns Loghain’s actions. She says he “quit the field,” and refers to the soldiers on the field as “those he abandoned,” saying they were “massacred.” This is negative phrasing in my personal interpretation, and I think is meant to be seen as light disapproval at least, from Morrigan. Throughout the game, Morrigan is all for blazing past all of the side missions/people in need to focus on the greater goal (which is not necessarily bad in and of itself and yes, can be compared to Loghain but that’s for a much longer post), and lots of her approval losses come from stopping to deal with every secondary thing that pops up. So for her to question Loghain’s actions, when she would perhaps be one of the people that would understand them most, says a lot, in my opinion.
