Decided to start a new game in Ultra Moon, and I chose popplio this time since it was the only starter I hadnât played with yet (which is actually a little ironic, since I usually pick the water starter--my first ever pokemon was a totodile, after all! [i named him Chomper, btw]). I was going to name them Gamzee or Karako, since their final form is kind of clown-ish... but I actually got a girl one, surprisingly! So I named her Tyzias, instead. ...I know Tyzias isnât a clown, but she was my favorite Friendsim troll, so...
(I thought about naming her Soleil--after the actual act, not the troll twins--but I thought that was a bit too generic)

I really donât get why they made it so hard to give Skylla the medkit. Joey outright says after giving it to her that it doesnât actually have medicine in it, and is pretty much supposed to be a stop-gap while she goes and looks for actual medicine, so why couldnât she have been able to just give it to her in the first place, rather than having to double back after Marsti moves??
Like, I can understand if the issue was some sort of bug, like one of the quests involving Tagora apparently was that just got patched, but, no, I think they really did just make everything that needlessly complicated from the get-go.
On another note--apparently if you check Remeleâs in-game Chittr, she mentions that her gallery isnât opening until next week... and Marvusâ also mentions a gig he is doing the next week. This would seem to imply that the Friendisms/Hiveswap timeline is even weirder, since Remeleâs route in Friendism takes place at her grand opening. So that would mean that chronologically Hiveswap would come first... except for the fact that Chixieâs route comes after Remeleâs--meaning that her âMaskâ persona wouldnât exist yet--and both Soleil twins are obviously still alive during Friendism.
We already found out that, apparently, Friendism is non-canon... but that just makes everything even weirder for all the references. (Like Elwurdâs Chittr mentioning an ex--who Friendism players would know refers to Bronya.)
Another interesting thing Iâve noticed about friendismsâa lot of the trolls, especially those of the same caste, seem to live in the same or similar neighborhoods, and very close to civilization.
Considering how a lot of the beta trolls lived far apart, and away from the places weâve seen others of their caste (for instanceâKanaya was in the middle of nowhere, far from the caverns; Terezi lived in a forest rather than near the offices or libraries common for other teals; Vriska and Equius did live close enough to see each other, affect each other more directly with their actions, and call each other neighbors, but otherwise seemed pretty isolated from the rest of civilization⌠looking back on it, Iâm pretty sure that Karkat and Sollux were the only ones who seemed remotely close to wider civilization at large???), do you think they were just outliers due to either Scratchâs machinations/the fact that they came down on meteors/the particular needs of some of their lusii (lususes?), or is that something the Condesce enforced amongst the youngsters post-Trizza?
Or I mean⌠she may not have even had to directly enforce itâconsidering exactly how loyal a lot of the friendism trolls were to Trizza, maybe the population of Alternian youths is just a lot lower than it normally would be, either to strategic drone culling or whatever happened during/in the wake of Trizzaâs death. âŚWhich I guess could technically still be construed as her enforcing it, in a wayâŚ
Though itâs entirely possible the sample size still isnât big enough to determine. I mean, even though the friendisms trolls number a lot higher than the canon twelve, even if you add in all the background trolls you see in the game that is still just a tiny portion of the population that has to inhabit Alternia. For all we know, the few cities we see are just the really big onesâEquivalent to, like, Chicago or Tokyo or something, and the rest of the planet has people far more spread out.
Which, assuming there really is only one Mothergrub at a time, and itâs the one in Bronya and Lyneraâs cave, would make a certain amount of sense.
Adding onto my previous thoughts and theories on Friendism... other notes that point to the⌠letâs say culture, of Alternia being drastically changed in Trizzaâs wake and the Condesce taking a more direct hand in things. The Beta trollsâ hives in general seem a lot more utilitarian than the variety offered among the Friendism trolls. Even among the higher castes, the places just feel a lot⌠darker. Like, all the walls are gray, with only a few posters showing any personality. If anything, itâs actually the lower castes that seem to have accumulated more knickknacks and personal touches adorning their walls--at least, the ones that we can see... which in the game I guess is really just Tavrosâ, since Solluxâs and Aradiaâs routes doesnât take place at home. And, sure, itâs possible that the other rooms in the hives are more decorated and lived in, but considering that many of the trolls let you view their respiteblocks on their routeâŚ
It is just very, very apparent that something is going on that canât just be explained by personality alone. Like, Karkat and Equiusâsure, they have very good reasons for things being utilitarian. But trolls like Vriska and Gamzee? Even if Gamzee is generally too high to think about actual decorations, one would still assume there would be more art or clown paraphernalia on his walls than there actually is beneath the general mess and detritus.
Terezi lives in a legitimate treehouse, for goodnessâ sake, and the walls are still incredibly boring!
Iâm really hoping it turns out that this is more of a âthis is just the newest/most popular style trend of the generation,â rather than an actual Condesce enforced rule. Like. Thereâs nothing wrong with liking that sort of style, it just⌠the uniformity of it all is disconcerting, especially in comparison with how varied everything seemed to be in the past.
Interestingly enough, though, it seems like one of Trizzaâs soda billboards is still up in Tavrosâ route. âŚUnless thatâs supposed to be Meenah. Itâs kind of hard to tell with how stylized it is. And, incidentally, his hive is actually one of the more welcoming/colorful ones! As in, it actually has color, and isnât just utilitarian and grey.
And Kanayaâs walls are white, but that might just be because the sunny area is reflecting on the gray. Though it is interesting to note that the other trolls actually do comment on how unusual it is that she isnât living in the caverns.
Nepetaâs cave doesnât count because thatâs not technically her hive--though it is still interesting to note that the walls are still more decorated than those of the other trolls. Also that she somehow managed to carve windows in the traditional style. Unless those were natural, which is possible, but would also be extremely weird.
Well, I finished off Friendism. It was... interesting, for the most part.
Theories incoming
Based on what went on there, and some of the theories and questions I had about troll society, Iâm thinking that the reason Doc Scratch set all that up to begin with was that he needed someone to establish a common link between all the trolls, and exacerbate or spark more raw feelings into them, all for the purposes of setting up some sort of showdown with Trizza.
Like... some of them are left clearly in favor of the empire--and more specifically, Trizza herself. Case in point Folkyl, Kuprum, and Tirona. Especially Tirona, who already seems extremely sure that Trizza will one day take over, and is already making preparations. Also Fozzer--and he is someone I will get back to. On the other hand, trolls like Tyzias, possibly Stelsa depending on how certain conversations go, and probably Daraya are leaning more pro-rebellion.
Thing is... a lot of those opinions were only formed because of the Readerâs intervention. Like... Daraya would never have met Tyzias if not for the Reader. and Fozzer... well, Doc Scratch wasnât even trying to hide his machinations there, but I get the feeling that in either case Fozzer would just have kept minding his own business digging graves if he hadnât encountered the Reader, but now that he has support he may be more inclined to spread it.
And even if they, along with the Reader, donât remember exactly what happened... I feel like those vague feelings would live on? That they would get a lot of situations where they donât quite remember how they met certain friends, or why they frequented certain places so often, or changed certain habits... but that they donât really question it, because it feels right?
Which is probably what Doc Scratch was going for.
Given what weâve seen of Trizza and know about her so far, as well as how long the Reader was implied to have been on Alternia, we can probably safely say that the events of Friendism happened before Hiveswap did--though how long before is not clear. This means that it is entirely possible, and very likely, that some of Dammekâs rebellion contacts only joined up because of what went on there. We know from some routes that the kids were already aware a rebellion was brewing, but who knows how long it was--or how long Dammek and Xefros have been part of it, actually. Point is, itâs highly likely that the contact/friend Xefros mentioned is one of the Friendism trolls.
It would also be a good explanation for why all those trolls are on the train at the same time. I donât think we know exactly where they are headed yet, but it does seem like some of them would have more reason to be on it than others. But itâs entirely possible that some of them cajoled their newfound friends into boarding, depending on where theyâre going. And if part of the goal is to move through the train cars, which seem very different depending on the blood castes involved... well, wouldnât it make sense for certain friends to ask others for favors in order to help Joey along?
And even beyond that... the Reader is kind of sort of implied to be human. Or at least... theyâre definitely the first experience these kids had with an actual alien. But considering that they all had a positive experience with said alien, even if they donât remember the specifics, itâs going to leave them primed to be more accepting of and fond towards Joey (even if she is wearing a shoddy disguise), whereas they may have otherwise been extremely suspicious of her. And considering that the sneak peak had one of the trolls Joey was communicating with mention Earth directly...
Assuming that Hiveswap (either this upcoming part or the series as a whole) ends with some sort of confrontation with Trizza, I can easily see Doc Scratchâs goal meaning to make it as big, wild, and publicized as possible--so much so that the Condesce canât ignore it any more and begins to make her direct presence known more on Alternia--setting up the culture and situations that the Beta trolls found themselves in which allowed the game to progress (mainly the kids being more isolated from the wider culture, especially in Feferiâs case... and possibly also Gamzeeâs, since it didnât seem like he actually joined in personally with a lot of the wider purple casteâs activities, since I highly doubt they would have let him become that addicted to sopor if they were--if only because he would have had to be more on guard at their ceremonies and had more of a support group that actually understood where he was coming from. ...Also possibly Terezi, as well--perhaps she felt the need to break up the teals more, considering that at least one of them was very entrenched in the rebellion?)
As far as the effects on Earth... well, outside of communicating with the humans while in the Game, Iâm not so sure he can directly affect that much/ see whatâs going on? Like... we know that Jade got ahold of one of his cueballs, and his machinations could be considered part of why their First Guardian is Bec... but it wasnât his job to actually steer Earth towards the game like it was for Alternia. So I donât know how much he had to do with that particular situation beyond making it so Dammek was the one Joey switched with--and even then, he likely couldnât do anything directly to make that happen from her end, beyond his omniscience leading him to see the path the alpha timeline would take to prepare for her arrival.
The point is--Iâm not entirely sure what effect Dammek is going to have on Earth that will help prepare it for the Game, especially since Jude is not a player. Possibly he will have some sort of affect on Grandpa Harley or Roxy, which will help them influence Rose and Jade down the line, but I just donât think we have enough information right now. ...Maybe it will be what convinces Grandpa Harley to raise Jade far away from the rest of civilization and actually stick around, so she doesnât get thrown into the same situation her siblings/ aunt and uncle by the technical adoption did? But given all the things implied about him from Joey, Iâm not entirely sure he would even notice enough to become aware of it. Then again, she is rather biased. On the other hand... he is still Jake.
I could see the experience making Joey or Jude become more interested in Skaianet, though.
