Now that Tumblr seems to be back on its bullsh*t about nudity...
I truly miss the days before December of 2018 when we could post without fear of our blogs being deleted. What strikes me retrospect is how that ability to post full nudity led to so many platonic relationships on here.
I mean, forget for a minute that Tumblr seems to have a tendency to only connect people who live far away from each other. But when we could post freely, it was so much livelier. At any given time I had a dozen or more mutuals that I was communicating with daily.
In the 13 years or so that I've been on Tumblr, I've easily had at least 100 mutuals that I was in some sort of regular contact with. Of that total, maybe 5 or 6 developed into something more than platonic (by which I mean sexting, etc. - I've never met a Tumblr mutual in-person).
The rest were just platonic. Casual nudity was simply a common interest. But it wasn't the only interest. It was a doorway to friendship.
Which is why it continues to irritate me after all these years that Tumblr has never given us the tools to manage nude/mature content responsibly. What remains of the casual nudity/SW community here very clearly wants to be responsible - nearly everyone I follow makes it clear that they do not want minors following them and they want to see indications of age in people's bios.
We try to conform to Tumblr's rules about mature content. But our blogs get forcibly labeled as "mature" - or even deleted - even when we follow the rules. Because the enforcement of the rules is largely automated.
I would love for Tumblr to give us the option to have our accounts age-verified. Speaking for myself, I would pay money to do this. Let age-verified blogs post what they want in return for letting other age-verified blogs see everything they post. EVERYTHING.
I suspect most people would run a verified blog and a non-verified blog simultaneously. But at least give us one blog we post on where we don't have to make sure every possible offensive square inch of skin is covered.
