why do both recent detective grimoire games have themes of how horrific being a teenage girl can be. donāt get me wrong iām all here for it but why are there 5 of them. fifi poppy freya and now sinthia and symmetry. iām like 80% sure there is an eldest daughter on the writers team because i felt so seen by fifi and sinthia.
these expectations are crushing you alive!! but you canāt put them down!! never ever!!

Trying to Work Out Timelines for Tangle Tower and Mermaid Mask
Warning, there be Spoilers Ahead!!!
Okay, so Iāve been thinking about the possible Timeline of Freya and her mother and how they could/would possibly work out between Tangle Tower and Mermaid Mask.
(Several people I know have been struggling to work it out due to weird information, so I'm trying to present some possible explanations.)
Mostly on how no one in Silkworm knew about Freya and how Felicia could have ādiedā when her daughter was three while still being around and doing things in Silkworm. As several context clues say that Freya should have been a lot older when Felicia passed away, despite Tangle Tower claiming that both of Freya's parents had died when she was three years old.
My thought was that maybe Felicia gave up custody to the half-brother she got along best with because she didn't want to be/feel capable of being a mom at the time? More so if she and Damian Dusk werenāt married, meaning there was the pressure of being a Single Mom in there too.
I assume that, since Felix and Felicia could have shared their love of seafaring and adventure, that could have given them common ground to be fairly close to each other. Even with the tremulous connections that came from being half-siblings. If they had something they shared, something positive that they bonded over, they both would have had something that made them put more emphasis on the āSiblingā over the āhalfā in their relationship.
Enough that, when he learned his half-sister was going to have a baby despite not being married, he would be willing to help her out by taking custody of said child to raise alongside his own daughter in Tangle Tower.
(Maybe even with full approval from Flora? Iām basing this on the fact that both of them seemed quite close to Freya despite her being their niece and not their daughter.)
The Tangle Tower Fellows had this feeling of financial security to them in the game, which was one of the reasons for the tensions between the Fellows and the Pointers. If that was always true, then there was also the motive of making sure Freya had a strong, safe home to grow up in that the Inn/Silkworm didnāt offer. After all, it was a very small town and we see it pretty well abandoned in Mermaid Mask. So there could have been hints to that future already showing up when Felicia was still pregnant with her baby.
After getting that squared away (and potentially having Freya at Tangle Tower instead of in Silkworm) she then went back home to the Inn and returned to running her sea tours.
Which could have been when Magnus showed up in her life (since he wasn't born in Silkworm, I think?) and started living/working there. It would make sense in that context for him to not know about Freya if she'd already had her and gave the custody to someone else.
Since Wirman only mentions his dad having a āthingā for the Inn Keeper, I can only assume he wasnāt aware of the full extent of their relationship or the possibility of him having a half-sibling. So I almost want to say that the relationship between the two was more of a Fun Fling than something long term and serious. Which could also explain why Felicia didnāt ask the Dusk family to take Freya. Because she didnāt think they would want her. Either because it would be a scandal for Dusk to be a father out of wedlock (especially if the man was still married) or because she knew he just- Didnāt want a second kid to raise.
Then she went AWOL/dropped contact with the TT crew around the time Freya turned three, which could have led to the assumption that she'd passed away. Since in TT, unless youāre keeping an active correspondence, you kind of Vanish From Existence if you arenāt living there or repeatedly visiting.
That, or there was some kind of scandal from Lord & Lady Fellow finding out that Felicia had a baby out of Wedlock with Mayor Dusk and she'd never told them about it (maybe even that she'd actively hid it from them). Considering the Implied Nobility status of the Remingtons/Fellows Iāve noticed, "death" via Disownment could be relevant logic there. Not to mention adding a sudden, strained relationship between the Fellows and the Dusks in Silkworm.
It would also explain the arguments about whether or not Freya would be allowed to carry the Fellow name that get mentioned. (Maybe even arguing that they should dump her on her father since she was a āDuskā.)
But Felicia didn't actually die until later on in the actual timeline. Just the āproper societyā connections sheād had from her father. Which she may not have fully cared about. Compared to the family connections, anyways.
Which would actually give her a motive to look for the Mask for more than just idle curiosity.
Finding and getting the Mask could have been an attempt to get back into their good graces.
There are some context clues in the games that say The Mermaid could have hatched from the Egg that Tangle Tower was built in, found in the story on the Bell and the hidden reel that featured Lord Remington speaking to someone. (And the weird shape of the cliffs around Tangle Tower.) Getting the mask, proving it worked, and then handing it over to her family could have been an attempt from Felicia to regain the favor of her family.
(And being allowed to interact with her daughter again.)
But, of course, the trip didnāt end well for anyone that had gone on it. And, instead of presenting her prize to her father's family, she skipped town and vanished into the aether.
Until, at some point in time after that, she died and the news was somehow sent back to Lord Fellow. And the Mourning Envelope and the key for the mask were locked away in the remains of the Manor. Until Mariana brought the chest to Mortunga.
All of these points could have weeks or even years between them, which would help space out the timeline in a more logical way.
Headcanon that Magnus was building the Silkwirm and Dearest Selena models originally as a gift for lil Freya. The late seventies/early eighties were right when the Fisher Price āLittle Peopleā toys started to get big, and I can imagine him wanting to give her a little toy set of her then home. Heck, it even has a way to open up the lighthouse for her to hide things in later, and a checkered board and ships to play all sorts of games.
Sometimes he still takes out the little ship pieces, arranges them and solves the puzzles they make. Distractions and all.
Penelope killed 5 of her family members?? Over what?? The illusion of them she built in her head?? Then killed Freya when Freya figured it out?? Most rushed ending Iāve played, yet. We didnāt even begin to unpack all of this.
Fitz very clearly caring for Penny. Growing and secretly tending to a plant he created just for her. The fact that heās secretive about it tooāthat he has some sort of shame surrounding this. Penny finding the plant that looks like herself āvulgarā. Penny getting jealous over Poppy and Fitz, when Fitz would prolly happily open up to Penny if she provided the space. Fitz going to tell Hawkshaw about Freyaās death, whomst is secretly Penelope. I wonder if he sensed that about her, that they were similar. I wonder if Penny harbours resentment towards Fitz for never figuring it out. Penny (27) being jealous over a nineteen year old.
