To some extent, I like to ponder whether J.D. knew about Freya and her death or not. I like the first option — that he knew about her but didn’t want to acknowledge her existence and her tragic death. Instead of living with the oppressive feeling that you’re alone, it’s easier to lie and say that you’ve always been alone in your family tree.

It’s not so good but I wanted to share it.

#My Headcanons for the Freya Family Situation copy-pasted from Discord(mild spoilers ahead for Mermaid Mask)
My headcanons ie; The Freya Situation.
I imagine Felicia(at that point Fellow?), 20-21 years old, starts having kinda a fling with Damien Dusk. He’s married to Wirman’s mother still at that point, but Felicia is young and kinda dumb and a little caught up in the Handsome Rich Guy who falls for the Spunky Working Class Girl fantasy. Plus he says he’s working on putting together stuff to divorce so it’s probably fine.
She gets pregnant. She tells Damien, who a little bit panics, and they agree to keep it a secret as best they can. Felicia approached Magnus- whom she’s been friends with for maybe only a year or two at this point, and asks him to please please please pretend to be the father so people don’t ask questions. Doesn’t have to be involved with the actual baby even. Magnus, being a good dude and caring about Felicia, agrees.
Freya is born. Felicia and Magnus raise her for a while. Then Faustus and Fortuna find out the truth somehow(probably because Damien is Severely Unsubtle. Potentially even because of the painting of Felicia he has commissioned). Either one or both of them gives Felicia an ultimatum, that she either give up the baby to her father’s family or they’ll go public with it(I imagine this being Fortuna mostly, given she’s probably bitter about Felicia herself being a product of infidelity).
Felicia, with pressure from the Fellows, Damien himself begging her to just give up the baby, and the potential social ostracism, agrees to give up Freya.(one of her earliest regrets, in my mind)
Freya gets shipped to Tangle Tower, and the official story becomes that her parents Died. (Cue arguements among Faustus, Fortuna, Felix, and Flint about whether or not to even call Freya a Fellow.)
Freya changes her surname officially to Stonetop after this, to no objections from the Fellows. She also officially cuts things off with Damien, both because of him pressuring her yo give up Freya and because of him probably admitting during that process that he doesn’t actually want to divorce his wife. (Though I feel like she divorced HIM first, not long after this. Probably both because of the painting and because she can’t handle him constantly going to the Stonetop Inn to see Felicia).
