Indie rock with a progressive slant from the early aughts!
Mew are a band from Denmark led by guitarist and vocalist Jonas Bjerre. They've got a really cool sound, mixing indie rock and elements of dream pop with mathier and more progressive song structures. This often results in dreamier passages rounding a corner into some more aggressive riffing, but the band never goes too hard as to veer into post-hardcore territory or anything. Combine this with Bjerre's rather androgynous vocals, which kiiiiind of remind me of Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, and you've got a unique band that's definitely worth checking out! This here is their 3rd, and seemingly most popular, album, Frengers, which seems to have had the subtitle "Not Quite Friends But Not Quite Strangers" attached to it at some point. It's a cool listen! I think the highlights are "Symmetry," "156," "She Came Home for Christmas," and closer "Comforting Sounds"!
