From an early age, Lance Myers knew he wanted to be a train engineer, and he vows to make it his lifelong career. He also has a long-standing love for photography and travel; as of September 2019, he has covered the contiguous 48 states. While on a short day trip, Myers set out for the Conemaugh Lake National Recreation Area in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, east of Pittsburgh. He wanted to capture a Norfolk Southern train with the Conemaugh River Lake Dam behind it, and luckily, timing was in his favor. His drone, flying high above the scene, captured the coal train just as it rolled over the bridge. Coal remains an important commodity, used as a source of energy, to produce steel, and to power industrial processes. This export thermal coal train is evidence of the continued global demand. In fact, NS moved more than 1 million coal carloads for customers in 2018. Pictured: July 2020 Calendar photo by Lance Myers, locomotive engineer, Altoona, Pennsylvania.
