Caption and post @wildconceptconservation Orcas in captivity are suffering agonizing constant pain from tooth damage. The orcas are chewing on steel and concrete from chronic stress and boredom. Experts studied 29 orcas in the US and Spain owned by the same company and 100% had tooth damage that your rarely see in wild orcas. 61% of them had their teeth drilled, a procedure that is so painful they vocalized, shuddered, or tried to swim away during. This also leaves holes in their teeth that could lead to infections so they have to be cleaned daily. Because of this, they wouldn’t be considered good candidates for full wild release. However, a seaside sanctuary would be 100x’s better than the hell they go through everyday and they would still receive the care they need. Don’t buy a ticket and support these greedy companies that kidnap and exploit orcas, dolphins, and other marine animals! Photo cred I.N. Visser, Orca Research Trust.
