a maze game that actually generates a new maze every time (rare!)
so many "maze games" reuse like 5 layouts on rotation. this one doesn't.
Hamzi's Cheese Adventure — free browser game, you guide a hamster through a maze that's completely regenerated every single playthrough using an actual DFS algorithm. no install, no account, just open it and go.
it's not just "find the exit" either. you need 3 sunflower seeds before the exit even unlocks, there are cats hunting you with pathfinding, and the whole map starts fogged so you're exploring blind. way more going on than I expected from a browser maze game.
free browser puzzle game, guide Hamzi the hamster through a randomly generated maze. no app, no account, works on phone or pc.
new maze every time = no memorizing layouts, no staleness. fog covers unexplored areas so the map reveals itself as you move, which genuinely feels like exploring instead of just navigating a static grid.
you need all 3 🌻 seeds before the exit unlocks, which means actually exploring side paths instead of beelining for the exit.
anyone who wants to just click and play, no install
people who want a puzzle game that requires actual thought
cute aesthetic + brain game combo fans
quick mobile game for a commute
something to play with your kid
pc: arrow keys or wasd mobile: on-screen d-pad, swipe also works
fog clears as you move, map fills in gradually. limited visibility early makes you cautious, which adds a nice bit of tension.
everything you're managing at once
thingwhat it does🌻 seedsneed all 3 to unlock the exit🔑 keysopen matching 🚪 locked doors🥕 carrots+15 seconds when you step on one🐱 catshunt you with actual pathfinding, catch you = lose a seed🧀 cheesereach it with 3 seeds to win
keys and doors are paired, so hitting a locked door with no key = dead end. worth scouting for keys as you explore instead of rushing.
three difficulties, genuinely different mazes
easy (10×10) — 3 min, no cats, 1 key pair, good starting point
medium (15×15) — 4 min, 1 cat, 2 key pairs
hard (20×20) — 5 min, 2 cats, 3 key pairs, narrower view — this one's legitimately hard
start easy, work up. hard throws two cats into a big maze and it gets real.
hit a dead end? retrace to the last junction
seeds hide in side paths — don't skip the detours
right-hand rule works — keep a hand on the right wall, keep moving
scout carrot locations early — helps a ton when time's tight
cat catches you? you keep your explored map and keys, just lose a seed and go back to start — not a full reset
DFS-generated maze = actually different every time, not just reshuffled tiles. the route you learned last game is useless now. "new maze" button lets you swap anytime without clearing the current one, and chasing a faster time on the same difficulty adds its own loop.
free? completely, no install needed
can I skip the seeds? no, all 3 required before exit unlocks
cat catches me, do I lose everything? no, just 1 seed + reset position, map/keys stay
best time saved? yes, locally in your browser
sound toggle? 🔊 button top right
anyway I've replayed this more than I planned to and Hamzi is just really cute, that's basically the review.
