I used to think a file was just a file.

If someone sent me an image, a video, or an audio recording, I assumed every device would open it without any issues. It didn't take long to realize that wasn't true.

Every format is created with a different purpose. Some focus on quality, others prioritize smaller file sizes, and some are designed for compatibility with specific software or devices. Choosing the right format can make sharing, editing, and storing files much easier.

Here are a few examples:

PNG is great for screenshots and graphics with transparent backgrounds.

JPEG keeps photo file sizes small for everyday use.

WebP offers excellent compression for websites.

MP3 remains one of the most compatible audio formats.

M4A usually provides better audio quality at similar file sizes.

PDF is ideal for sharing documents while preserving formatting.

The challenge is that not every application supports every format. Instead of searching for a different app every time, I prefer using an online converter that works directly in the browser.

when the file gets bigger — more pixels per frame usually means a bigger file, especially with lots of frames. if that's an issue, run it through GIF Compress after.

does this make up detail that wasn't there before? nope, not AI super-resolution, it's just the browser's high-quality smoothing. it softens jagged edges but can't invent detail that never existed.

how big can I scale it? up to 2x the original width. testing showed 3x gets noticeably blurry and 4x is clearly degraded, so it caps at 2x.

does the file get bigger? usually yeah, more pixels per frame. if size matters, compress it afterward.

does this mess with speed or looping? nope, frame delays and loop count stay exactly the same.
