Family - Frank Iero x Fem!Reader
Character: Any Era Frank
Warnings: None :)
P: Hiii! Glad people are requesting for MCR again! So glad to be writing for them ;) ofc u can be 🛸 anon!
It wasn’t rare for Frank to talk about his family. After all, he was an only child that grew up in a family of musicians – and he was certainly proud of it. It didn’t take very long for me to ask to meet them, hearing the stories of their adventures, I almost felt like I knew them at this point. And so, after mustering up the courage to ask, we finally were on our way back to Jersey to meet them.Â
Sitting in the car, I kept picking at my sweater, little bits of fluff coming off.Â
Frank noticed.
"You've done that like... thirty times."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
He snorted beside me, one hand drumming against the steering wheel while the other rested lazily at the top. "You're nervous."
"I'm not nervous."
"You absolutely are."
"I'm just..." I sighed dramatically. "I want them to like me."
He glanced over for half a second before looking back at the road, smiling in that stupid, unfairly cute way that always made my stomach flip.
"They're gonna love you."
"You don't know that."
"I do."
"You literally can't."
"I literally can. I know both you and my family better than anyone else."
I groaned and sank lower into the passenger seat.
"This is horrible."
"No, this is Sunday dinner."
"It's psychological warfare."
Frank laughed so hard he had to wipe his eyes.
"You know what's funny?" he said.
"What?"
"My mom's probably just as nervous to meet you."
I blinked.
"...Really?"
"Yeah."
"...Why?"
"'Cause I've spent six months talking about this amazing girl who steals my hoodies and leaves hair ties everywhere."
"I do not leave hair ties everywhere."
He raised an eyebrow.
"...Okay, maybe a couple."
"A couple?"
"They migrate."
"They reproduce."
I smacked his arm, making him grin even wider.
God.
How was he so relaxed?
He was introducing me to his family.
His actual family.
I met bandmates. Friends. Random people at shows. None of that compared to this.
Because this felt...
Real.
We pulled into the driveway of a cozy brick house with flowers spilling out of pots by the front door.
Frank parked the car, unbuckled his seatbelt, and immediately reached over to squeeze my hand.
"Hey."
I looked at him.
"Breathe."
"I am breathing."
"Barely."
I laughed weakly.
"What if they hate me?"
"They won't."
"What if your Mom secretly wanted you to marry an Italian girl named Maria?"
"...I mean… My family is Italian."
My eyes went wide.
"Oh my god."
He burst out laughing.
"I'm kidding."
"I'm going home."
"You are home."
I rolled my eyes.
"You're the worst."
"I know."
Before I could overthink anything else, he leaned across the console and kissed my forehead.
Just a soft, quick kiss.
"You've got this."
My heart melted.
"...You're cheating."
"What?"
"Using forehead kisses."
"They're effective."
"They really are."
The second we stepped inside, the smell hit me first.
Garlic.
Fresh bread.
Tomato sauce.
Something sweet baking somewhere.
It smelled like every comforting memory rolled into one.
"Frankie!"
A woman appeared from the kitchen almost instantly, drying her hands on a dish towel.
She smiled the second she saw him.
Then she noticed me.
"Oh!"
Frank smiled.
"Mom, this is—"
She didn’t even let him finish.
"You must be Y/N."
I blinked.
"...You know who I am?"
She laughed.
"Honey, I've known who you are for months."
I immediately looked at Frank.
He suddenly found the floor fascinating.
"Oh no."
His mom smiled knowingly.
"Oh yes."
She started counting on her fingers.
"'Y/N made me soup because I was sick.'"
Frank groaned.
"Mom..."
"'Y/N found this dog and spent twenty minutes talking to it.'"
"Mom."
"'Y/N cried over a baby duck.'"
"I did not cry."
Frank coughed.
"You absolutely cried."
"There were... feelings."
His mom laughed warmly before pulling me into a hug so naturally that I barely had time to react.
"Welcome."
Just...
One word.
Welcome.
Something in my chest loosened.
"Oh," she said, pulling back. "He's been impossible."
I glance at Frank.
"What?"
"He smiles all the time now."
"I do not."
"You do."
"I don't."
"You literally walked into a wall because she texted you."
I whipped my head toward him.
"...You what?"
"It wasn't a wall."
"It was a door frame."
"Same thing."
I laughed so hard my eyes water.
Frank pointed accusingly at his mom.
"This is bullying."
"This is parenting."
The rest of the family slowly filtered into the kitchen, introductions blending together with warm smiles, teasing stories about Frank as a kid, and more food than seems physically possible to fit on one table.
At first, I perched quietly beside Frank, answering questions carefully, trying not to seem awkward.
But it didn't stay that way for long.
His uncle asked about university, genuinely interested.
His aunt wanted to know how Frank and I met.
His grandmother patted the empty chair beside her and insisted I sit there because, "Frank can survive five minutes without staring at you."
He dramatically gasped.
"I do not stare."
His grandmother didn’t even look up from stirring her coffee.
"You walked into a door."
The entire table erupted into laughter.
I caught Frank hiding a smile behind his hand.
Under the table, he reached over and hooked his pinky around mine.
No one noticed.
Or... maybe they did.
Because when I glanced toward his mom, she was already looking at us with the softest smile.
Not smug.
Not emotional.
Just...
Happy.
Like she'd hoped the girl her son couldn't stop talking about would fit right in.
And somehow—
Without even realizing when it happened—
I did.Â
