new completely tragic fd headcanon:
originally fd wanted to invent the cloning machine so that he could be recognized for being a scientific genius and get his status back (or surpass it)
but the further he got into experimenting he realized if he told anybody what he'd done, he'd be punished for it because of the exploitation
because of this he pulls every string he can to lead three down the road of taking revenge on jonny and eventually getting himself killed. since the boss is the only one who actually knows what fd did, his death would mean the complete erasure of fd from history, and with it, the punishment he would incur for himself.
he knew he couldn't just kill three because by the time he'd realized this three was too strong, and he knew he didn't have much time left. all he could do was hope the boss would follow the trail he left, and he did.
so what originally started as a chase for recognition turned into a chase to be forgotten.
